I recall hearing somewhere (it might have been on this forum somewhere) that the apparition of Our Lady of Akita in Japan has had its “worthy of belief” declaration revoked by the current bishop. Has anyone else heard about this, and, if so, is it true?

EWTN Report:

Despite claims that Cardinal Ratzinger gave definitive approval to Akita in 1988, no ecclesiastical decree appears to exist, as certainly would in such a case. However, some individuals, such as former Ambassador of the Phillipines to the Holy See, Mr. Howard Dee, have stated that they were given private assurances by Cardinal Ratzinger of the authenticity of Akita.

In any case, in keeping with the current norms, given the absence of a repudiation of Bp. Ito’s decision by his successors, or by higher authority, the events of Akita continue to have ecclesiastical approval.

I had heard somewhere too that they were being investigated again so i wrote to the bishop of that diocese. He sent me an email stating the approval by bishop Ito still stands.

The bishop approved Akita Apparitions in in 1984…13 years after the events…and 8 years of official investigation…this still stands as Ecclesial approval…Vatican approval is not necessary…but if the Vatican or the local Conference of Bishops wanted to intervene in the approval…they could…but have not.

Here is a brief summary of what Our Lady of Akita asked for…very similar to Fatima…with a special daily consecration prayer like the Fatima Prayer. The actual message is quite ominous…more than Fatima IMHO. Bottom line: Pray Rosary daily…do penance in reparation for sins…especially my own.

Pax Christi
According to the bishop of that diocese, Bishop Shojiro Ito, “Our Lady stressed the importance of praying the Rosary, and above all of accepting from God whatever He may send in the course of each day…whatever suffering…and to offer it up in reparation for so many sins committed throughout the world at this time.”
In detail, Mary’s message was to…
Repair for the indifference and sins of mankind. Make these acts of reparation before the Blessed Sacrament.
Make reparation by offering your sufferings for poor sinners.
Sr. Agnes’ religious community was asked to accept poverty and offer it up to God for the conversion of sinners.
Prayer, penance, and sacrifice - “Prayer, penance, and courageous sacrifices can appease the anger of the Father.” -words of Our Lady to Sr. Agnes
Pray the Rosary every day offering it especially for the Pope, the bishops and priests - "The only arms which will remain for you will be the Rosary and the Sign left by my Son.
Each day, recite the prayers of the Rosary. With the Rosary, pray for the Pope, the bishops and the priests." - words of Our Lady to Sr. Agnes
Pray the Fatima Prayer after each decade of the Rosary
Consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus by daily praying the Akita prayer…
Our Lady of Akita Japan Prayer
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, truly present in the Holy Eucharist, I consecrate my body and soul to be entirely one with Thy Heart, being sacrificed at every instant on all the altars of the world and giving praise to the Father pleading for the coming of his Kingdom. Please receive this humble offering of myself. Use me as Thou wilt for the glory of the Father and the salvation of souls. Most Holy Mother of God, never let me be separated from Thine Divine Son. Please defend and protect me as Thy special child. Amen

In theory I suppose it is possible for the ruling of the local bishop on such a matter to be overruled, as their decisions on the validity or non validity of marriages can, but unless and until such is actually done the original decision stands.
