Is Our Lady of Fatima Still Relevant?

Our Lord Jesus Christ is God and man. He is God begotten of the substance of the Father before all ages and man born in time of the substance of His Mother.
Just as the moon is luminated by the sun, the glory of Mary is the reflection of Christ.
In that sense, however, Mary is not a “lesser light” or any kind of light at all. Every person – indeed all of creation – reflects God’s glory. May is privileged to do so in a special way, but, to be clear:
Jesus: 100% human . . . 100% divine
Mary: 100% human . . . . . 0% divine.
And that last number isn’t even 0.0001%. It’s worth the effort to keep that fact straight in our minds, and it can get lost when we make up passages like, God created Jesus and Mary and set them in the sky as lights, implying some ontological similarity. God did not create Jesus, and Mary is not a light like Jesus. To the contrary, John 8:12 tells us that Jesus is “the light of the world.”

So… still 0.0% divine, sorry. I know people would love it if she could be a fourth member of the Trinity, but it does neither us nor her any good to pretend she is.

And just to recap:
Mary’s existence: 100% owed to God
Mary’s grace: 100% owed to God
Mary’s goodness: 100% owed to God
Mary’s ability to redeem one hair on a sinner’s head by herself: non-existent.
Etc.

Now I will go say ten Hail Mary’s 😉

Edited to add: Done 👍

I think you’re pulling the thread off topic. You should start a new one. 🙂

Please note that Pope Benedict, in his letter, did not say “the SSPX are still suspended” – he merely said ‘they have no canonical mandate’ in the Church. But that was always the case. The bishops were ordained on an emergency basis, as is actually provided for in Canon Law. The SSPX have argued (successfully, as far as I can see) that they were indemnified against penalties by Canon Law canons 1323, 1324 +1321 (New Code) which cover emergency situations. Mgr Lefebvre was very careful not to usurp jurisdiction of other bishops when he (& Archbp. de Castro Meyer) consecrated the four SSPX bishops *‘sine locus, pro tem’ *– without a diocese, for the duration (of the emergency). They have gone round the world supplying the spiritual needs that are being denied to laypeople by the ‘mainstream’ clergy, for whatever reason. Now they are in theological discussions with the Vatican on the doctrinal meaning of Vatican II. This is something that the other religious orders, and diocesan bishops, ought to have been asking for 40 years ago. The SSPX have been an inestimable boon to the Church during an extraordinarily difficult time.
Why aren’t you attending the “Extraordinary” or Tridentine rite? My son’s parish in Irving Texas (near Dallas) is a Tridentine community in union with Rome.
The SSPX are in union with Rome. Any doubt was removed with the lifting of the decree of excommunication – which the SSPX (and many quiet supporters) will always maintain were null and void from the beginning. There are a couple of CAF threads that deal with this. What you are asking (and it is a fair question) is…
Why aren’t you attending the “Extraordinary” or Tridentine rite in a parish in good standing with the diocesan bishop and with the Vatican?
It is because, without the courage of the SSPX all these years, the traditional liturgy, and much else besides, would have died out forever. The history of the FSSP and other religious congregations now keeping the TLM (EF) is that they all started up as a reaction to the SSPX. The Vatican most certainly would not have established them without the ‘threat’ of the SSPX drawing away priests and parishoners from the “Renewal” which was being illegally imposed. For many many years the SSPX organisation has helped my family and others when nobody else would listen. I would feel like a turncoat and coward to desert them now. And their full regularisation now seems only a matter of time. This, of course, is my personal opinion, since you 🙂 asked. I have been glad that I have remained friends with many Catholics of many different flavours – Opus Dei, FSSP, Focolare – and just plain parish Catholics – even though we have been unable to convince each other. Interestingly, the only people who have ‘fallen out’ with us have been the Sedevacs. 4 out of the 5 I have known well have simply broken off communication (since we are certainly damned for recognising the Pope, apparently).
I understand that there are some parishes in Ireland that offer the Tridentine Mass. I would imagine that those parishes which have the Tridentine Mass would be more traditional than the rest of the parishes. I’ll be in Ireland in three weeks. Will have to check out those parishes. 🙂
Many parishes in Ireland do offer a reverent form of Mass – but you’ll be able to judge for yourself. The young, however, lapse in droves. My wife & I decided that the ‘now usual’ way of forming the young doesn’t work. The problem with FSSP parishes etc is that there is no guarantee of continuity. The father of a family needs to be able to pick his job and house in a place where he has a ‘reasonable’ assurance that the parish will be there while his family grows up. I salute the bravery of priests who try one-off reforms; but when they go, so does the TLM and catechism (if they give it) from that parish. What the SSPX have done is to organise. They have refused to be pushed into the ‘divide and conquer’ trap. Our own family owe them a debt of gratitude.
N.B. it is typical that the sedevac website promotes the “two Sr Lucy” theory, while the SSPX give quiet support to the views of Fr Gruner, Antonio Socci et al. And it was Bp Fellay, Superior of the SSPX, who asked for 12 million Rosaries that the Pope will carry out the collegial consecration of Russia – and got 18 million.

Has the Holy Father received this bouquet of Rosaries? I wonder if these prayers will induce him to perform the Consecration? I wonder how long we will have to wait before we know the thoughts of the Pope on this matter?

The rosary Crusade was from 31 May2009 (Queenship of Our Lady) to the 25th of March (the Annunciation). Results were still trickling in to SSPX HQ last month, but I would guess the Holy Father has the Bouquet by now. We pray nightly for his physical safety, as well as for ‘his intentions’, because I can foresee only one result for a pope who tries to reform the hierarchy without invoking the weapons Our Lady gave us at Fatima – notably the Collegial Consecration of Russia.

In Cork, there is a weekly Sunday Mass at 12 noon in S. Peter and Paul church, Paul St, off the main street (S. Patrick St). and a First Saturday Mass has just been instituted at S. Patrick’s Church, Lower Youghal Rd, opposite Ceannt train station. I’ll need to check the time (it only started this month, & we didn’t hear about it in time). The former are “in good standing” with the diocese. Also the weekly Sunday SSPX Mass at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Shanakeil, at 11am. Third Sunday of the Month is Missa Cantata, & 4th Sunday there is Benediction after Mass. Fáilte go Corcaigh!

I apologize for being so insistent, but I still have questions that I hope can be answered:

-The Wiki article reports that not everyone in the crowd saw the miracle. Is this true?

-Skeptics have attacked the character of Lucia, citing the following quotations by her mother and Friar Mario de Oliveira:

“She’s nothing but a fake who is leading half the world astray.” - Lucia’s mother

“[She lives] in a delirious world of infantile fantasies.” - Friar Mario de Oliveira

No sources were provided, so I’m inclined to think that they were taken out of context. Can anyone offer further insight?

– I don’t know whether it’s true that not everyone in the crowd saw the miracle. The books I have read about Fatima – including Sr. Lucia’s memoirs – don’t mention that. Even if it’s true that a few people didn’t see it, tens of thousands of people did see it, from as far away as 31 or 32 miles.

– Of course not everybody believed Lucia. That was part of the suffering that the Blessed Mother predicted she would have to endure. God also unquestionably used these tormentors to preserve Lucia in humility. The skeptics have been overborne by the overwhelming evidence that Lucia and the other children were telling the truth.

It is not always possible, or even necessary, to be able to answer every conceivable objection. Sometimes the attempt to do so is damaging to one’s credibility.

Anything going on in Mayo? I’m hoping to be there soon to work on some genealogy. Family are from the Louisburgh area.

Thank you, too, for your other comments on SSPX. I have more respect for them after reading this thread. I’ll have to look locally to see if they have a presence.

Yes, Fatima is most important.

The administrative government that we have now in power is now under expose with all the radical Marxists ties going back to the 60’s and 70’s.

I worked in a Portuguese colony that fell to Leninist Marxism. A superior general priest told me I wasn’t making it there because I was white and a capitalist, and I grew up in a dinky house in the inner city. Most of his missions were destroyed…He did do great work in developing an agricultural economic base for the indigenous people.

But I wonder if he and others had promoted the rosary and penance that may be they would not have lost their missions. I also read recently through the use of a translator tool, that those priests were perceived by the opposing right wing as being on bended knee to the Marxists.

I know the clergy there were working very hard to help the people to enter into the church and sacraments and to have more control over their own environments.

Unfortunately the first thing the Marxists did was to promote enemy of our country and label anyone as capitalist–self -sufficient and their (name removed by moderator)ut not wanted in the new society.

Previously to my arrival, I did study language and my roommate lived on a farm outside of Leira. The family took me to Fatima. The father got out of the car when we were about to leave, because he saw a small, elderly man. He came back to us and said he knew that man and that elder witnessed the miracle of the sun. He had the happiest and most benevolent face.

Our country right now is under the control of Neo Marxists…it is intertwined with the globalists like Planned Parenthood and so on. I read the writings of Russian Josef Terelya who passed away recently…I may not have spelled his last name correctly…but he was in the gulags and had mystical experiences he recorded. He observed the prison. He said the Communists had books they used that were from the “New Age”.

The Communist ability of disinformation is supernatural…but demonic. We all hear about the 10 million killed by Hitler and Naziism but we hear very little about the many more millions and millions of people slaughtered by Communism.

So Communism is intertwined with Secular Globalism and the New Age…and they have a strange relationship with the Islamicists but it is based on Anti Semitism and anti Christianity, especially the Catholic Church. Some say our seminaries were infiltrated during the 1930’s, the same time the Bolsheviks came into contact with the Islamicists.

I dealt with someone who was into the New Age…and this person had an incredible ability to transfer their guilt to those who started picking up on things…incredible ability with disinformation…so I tend to believe Terelya that the New Age is used to protect Communists. They are very busy right now labelling the average law abiding hard working people of this country. My friend from church is from Chicago and they cannot believe how the American people fell for this crowd. Chicago is a case in itself…mafias in place for over 150’s, the decent people all broken down to say anything, and you have to be in a union to be taken care of…the unions are going to get alot of payback by this administration…and we are all becoming like the silenced in Chicago.

So if we can’t build bridges for national unity within our own country…as people are too independent and look out for themselves, and do not have the basic camraderie and family support like you see in Italy and Spain, then we must work to have a movement for people to pray the rosary and fast. It is already happening through some channels like Medgugorje.

I think the basic message of Fatima was the implication that the rest of the world would lose the true faith and that many nations would be destroyed with the class hatred, the destruction of family and promotion of easy divorce, and a society where intelligent work creating people would be executed.

The message now is the bad in our country are white and supporting the free market and Christian.

MSNBC Newsvine goes through its periods of extreme anti-Christian/Catholic bigotry and those people are radical, at last count 42% of them were unemployed. I was banned because I stood up for pro life, supported heterosexual marriage and considered homosexual behavior and its consequences of diseases unhealthy. Fornication goes both ways, straight or gay…I pass through and see the same…some did have enough integrity to express some dismay with removing many of us. One top fellow…I came to another site of his, and it showed the raised fist in the background of the gun and sickle…Marxist.

Of course, do you think Mary just had a boring day in heaven when God decided to send her to Fatima?

God does not do do futile things.

Aha! I lived for 2 years next door to Louisburgh, in Westport– in the very shadow of S. Patrick’s mountain – & there is a TLM (summorum pontificum) at S. Patrick’s Academy, Islandeady, between Westport & Castlebar. They have a website – I suggest you check it not long before you come. There was a daily TLM when the wonderful Fr Wilders was alive; I’m out of touch with what they are offering now. Also, at Mt Tabor hermitage, Drummin, there might be a Mass. I’m not sure whether they have a resident priest.

Thanks, I am happy to be able to help set the record straight on the SSPX.

I don’t know either whether there were one or two out of the 700,000 minimum who saw it. But do you know, it would be just like what Heaven does … there might have been a particular reason why some people were not chosen to see it, which was nobody else’s business. And Heaven does not submit to our own demands. Remember how the parish priest of Lourdes told Bernadette he would believe if Our Lady made his rosebush bloom? She just ignored his request, and gave us the Spring instead…

There were 7 or 8 German Jesuit priests in Japan who lived approximate the area of Ground Zero who survived the atomic bomb, and had 200 scientific tests done on them that reported no radiation.

The priests said it was following our Lady’s request from Fatima that saved their lives.

“The task of the devil is functioning in the disintegration of the Catholic world. The darkness of Satan has entered and spread throughout the Catholic Church even to its summit. Apostacy, the loss of faith, is spreading throughout the world and into the highest levels within the Church” (Pope Paul VI, Address on the 60th Anniversary of the Fatima Apparitions, October 13, 1977)
