Is our marriage valid since the priest wasn't thorough with our preparation?

My husband and I were married in the Church, however the pastor of the church where we married did not prepare us in any way and did not go through the proper forms, such as making sure that I (the Catholic marrying the non-Catholic) had been confirmed (and I had not) or getting an agreement from my fiance that we would raise our children in the Catholic faith. My husband and I have since been confirmed and are raising our children in the faith, but we would like to know, is our marriage valid?

Hi,

From what you have said, the priest was remiss in preparing you, but you and your husband were not–regarding the essentials. Despite the inadequate preparation, your marriage sounds to me to be valid.

Fr. Vincent Serpa, O.P.
