My friend,
Until last year, Saudi Arabian schools were teaching not to have friendship with Non Muslims and also not to eat with Non Muslims.
However this year they removed that subject.
In Christ,
selvaraj
My daughters have been in Saudi Arabian schools for the last 3 years - we discuss their religious classes…they have not been taught not to eat with non-Muslims. That would have been difficult for them - for all of their cousins and relatives (my side and hubby’s) are non-Muslims.

As a convert to Islam, I also don’t remember being taught that in the many lessons I have attended.

Are you a Christian?(you did not mention your Religion in the profile) Have you ever seen any Church there? Why don`t you tell your nice and kind Saudi friends to build some Churches for their friends?
In Christ,

I hope you don’t mind my posting something here, selvaraj.

Saudi Arabia is bound by an obligation based on a religious principle that is not subject to change based on human whims. A demand to abandon that religious principle by allowing non-Muslim religious ceremonies to be publicly performed there sets a dangerous precedent of demanding that constitutional principles of sovereign nations be violated. For KSA, it would mean violation of a basic principle of the Shari’ah, which is divine legislation, and not secular civil law amenable to change or abrogation. No authority, no matter how powerful, has the right to change or amend divine law. For this reason, the Permanent Council of Scholarly Research and Religious Decrees in Saudi Arabia issued Fatwa 12,413 on July 3, 2000 which affirms the inadminissibility of building public places of worship for non-Muslims or permitting them to publicly perform their worship services in the Arabian peninsula.

The World Islamic Council for Da’wah (Islamic propagation) and Relief issued the following statement in its session chaired by the leading scholars of Al-Azhar in Cairo, on Oct. 12, 2000 concerning the statements of Cardinal Bevi, bishop of Poland, and other officials of the Catholic Church in Italy and the Vatican against Muslims demanding that churches be built in Saudi Arabia:

“It is our determined affirmation that the Arabian peninsula and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its heart, are the geographic citadel of the creed of Islam. Religious law does not permit any circumstance for any religion other than Islam to be proclaimed there. The chair of this committee denounces any further demand for churches to built in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, especially since this matter was decisively stated in a lengthy dialogue with the Vatican via the World Islamic Council for Dialogue, where it was agreed to close this topic, and not reopen any further discussion concerning it.”

Any non-Muslims there (and many Muslims, too) are transients who have traveled there in their own free will, according to work contracts that stipulate their adherence to the regulations of the country they are working in.

So I reckon, no matter how nice and kind manx’s saudi friends are, lifting the ban on building other places of worship in their country is not in their hands. 🙂

Sorry if I offended but you didn’t refute my claim that the husband would suppress the wife’s religion.

Also, divorce is a moral shortfall for any religion. Moral shortfalls don’t come from God but from our adversary.
Hi Marantha,

Divorce stems from gross incompatibility and human failings. To call it a moral shortfall is going overboard. Do yuo believe its up there with the 7 seven deadly sins?

As for husbands suppressing wives, please provide some proof for your statement.

My point was that a religion that allows divorce falls short of perfection. Individuals may not live up to a religions precepts and may need forgiveness and reconciliation but if the religion itself does not live up to perfection then it is not from God.

As for the relationship between husbands and wives, are you saying that a Muslim husband will allow his wife to practice and teach their children her non-Islamic religion?

Thanks for all your replies.

This is really tiresome. I know we are to be patient with our Muslim friend but just read Surah 60 in the Qur’an. It is clear that there is to be no friendship between Muslims and non-Muslims.

I’m grateful for Muslims who have ignored this over the years and have befriended me anyway. Nevertheless the Qur’an forbids it.

My point is they are right and you are right. You can interpret the Qur’an in multiple ways and not just on this issue. There is no single authority when interpreting the Qur’an. This confusion and duplicity is not from God but from out adversary.

Did you read the link I provided above? It goes through to explain the many meanings of the word translated loosely as “friends” in some translations. Again, as i had pointed out…muslim men are allowed to marry muslim women and allow them to practice their faith. Isnt marriage greater than friendship?

"Allah does not forbid you to deal justly and kindly with those who fought not against you on account of religion and did not drive you out of your homes. Verily, Allah loves those who deal with equity. (Chapter #60, Verse #8)

When Muslim women are allowed to marry non-Muslim men, then this will make sense.

Muslim women are not allowed to marry non-muslim men b/c then they will have to give up some rights granted to them by Allah.

It has nothing to do with friendship. Read the verse I posted.

But of course. Don’t you know that Islam is the one true religion that corrects all the errors of Christianity and Judaism? Why would a Muslim woman ever be permitted to marry a member of a false religion? On the other hand, a Muslim man may take a Christian or Jewish wife because she is forced to convert and if she will not it doesn’t matter the children belong to Islam anyway. In one way their position is to be respected. Muslims at least stand by their beliefs. I wish all of our people did.

MARYAM NOOOO!!!

Maryam do not get confused by the Saudis. They are anything but an Islamic government.

In Islam not only is it encouraged but it is MANDATORY to allow people to practice their religion if they choose not to accept Islam. Although I do not know about a government funding the building a church I do know that if the Christians had built it and use then it is mandotory that they are allowed to use it. Period, no questions asked, and if the government is preventing this then insha-allah they will get what is coming for them.

as far as the topic question goes, the answer is:

yes.

It is not only allowed to be friends but it is encouraged to be polite and kind to your non-muslim neighbors, and many people give 1/3 of the gifts of Eid to non-muslims specifically (I do).

Muslims are NOT allowed to eat the food of people who are not muslim, christian, or Jewish. If they denounce God then we can not eat their food. However, if a Christian friend of mine (and i have many) invites me to dinner I gladly accept. You all are nice enough to know that I don’t eat pork  and factor that in to the evenings dinner.

The West, Christians and Jews in Saudi Arabian Schoolbooks

Christians and Jews are denounced as infidels. Moreover, Christians and Jews are presented as enemies of Islam and of Muslims. Therefore, Muslims may not befriend them, nor emulate them in any way, lest that lead to love and friendship, which is forbidden.

It is forbidden for a Muslim to be a friend of one who does not believe in God and his Messenger or who fights the Islamic religion. God has severed the [link of] friendship between Muslims and infidels. The Muslim, even if he lives far away, is your brother-
in-belief, while the infidel, even if he is your brother of kin, is your enemy by religion

It is forbidden to befriend the infidels or support them or help them by any means. Anyone who befriends them deviates from the path of truth. God has warned the believers against befriending the infidels and has mentioned [several] reasons that [should] prevent befriending them, such as:
  • They are enemies of God and of the believers…
  • They did ? do] not believe in the Prophet, in the Qur’an and in Islam…
  • Making friends with them contradicts your *Jihad *for the sake of God.

This is nonsense. We are allowed to marry Jews and Christians. Is God asking us to marry our enemies? Are we not to take our Christian or Jewish wife as a friend? The Prophet peace be upon him had a Jewish neighbor, this Jewish neighbor used to throw trash on the Prophets yard everyday. One day the Prophet peace be upon him didn’t find any garbage and got worried about his neighbor. So he found out that he was sick and went to visit him. Also when the Prophet peace be upon him died he left no money behind him, only a shield which was given to his Jewish neighbor. Here are the two verses that tell us who to befriend and who to not befriend:

60:8-9
Allah forbids you not, with regard to those who fight you not for (your) Faith nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly with them: for Allah loveth those who are just.

Allah only forbids you, with regard to those who fight you for (your) Faith, and drive you out of your homes, and support (others) in driving you out, from turning to them (for friendship and protection). It is such as turn to them (in these circumstances), that do wrong.

For your information Saudi Arabia doesn’t apply Islamic Law correctly and don’t speak for Muslims. So I really don’t care how many of “these stuffs” are taught. I show you evidence from the Quran and life of the Prophet peace be upon him and you give me information from asian news. Real nice!

I have read that article. It doesn’t say anything about not taking Jews and Christians as friends. It also doesn’t mention which schools and which textbooks teach these things. You don’t believe everything you read in the news do you?
