Which is why I didn’t challenge this point which you had made earlier, instead only substantiating the existence of a Diocese of Regensburg.
Ah, I see. But please don’t see that as being an “in your face thing.” I’m just curious. Maybe there IS some kind of different structure of the hierarchy in other parts of the world in which a diocesan bishop answers to /reports to the metropolitan archbishop. I merely wanted to see it. Thanks for your response.

Not at all. I tend to doubt the Wikipedia wording on this entry. Don’t know if it’s written by the same person, but the entry on the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising states that it is divided into 40 (!) dioceses. Couldn’t find any details pro or con at the Archdiocese’s website (my German’s pretty weak), but other sources describe only 57 dioceses in all of Germany.

Caesar:

That’s not a fair comparison, and most of the people who are familiar with the situation in the LA Archdioese know that, and most of the posters on this board are familiar with the repeated Liturgical Abuses which Cardinal Mahony has seemed to encourage.

Might I suggest you compare your film of a TLM with one of Pope Benedict’s Masses (readily available from EWTN) or with one of the many televised masses from EWTN?

Or, Go down to Florida and film one of this man’s masses:

The Mass of Vatican II
Fr, Joseph Fessio, S.J. - Founder and Provost of Ave Maria and Founder of Ignatius Press
ignatiusinsight.com/features2005/fessio_massv2_1_jan05.asp

I believe any of these will be provide a far better representation of the Ordo Missae 1970 than a mass from an archdiocese whose Archbishop Ordinary could be said to be in heresy.

Your Brother in Christ, Michael
Okay, I got a little carried away when I asked you all to compare the Tridentine to a Mass with Cardinal Mahoney. I admit my mistake there.

However, while I do acknowledge the existance of many Pauline Masses that are celebrated solemnly and traditionaly (as that article you gave me pointed out), these are quite rare in many places. In fact, the Pauline Mass that I attend when I am not able to be at a Tridentine looks very much like one of Mahoney’s Masses.

Yes, I have seen changes in local Masses. Some parishes are singing “some” latin. Regretfully, Haugen, Haas and Shutte are still hanging around.

We have been offered a few extra Tridentine Masses in Oregon, however Washington state is still slow.

I had a nice long talk with our local priest and he indicated that he is willing to do whatever the Bishop and B16 tells him to do. He “never studied latin” and he’s near retirement.

Our choir is slowly changing styles. We even sing a few old hymns that are really Catholic.
Shutte, Haas and Haugen’s hymns make me throw up.

The Mass should be solemn, reverant and Holy. Very few Novus Ordos are reverant, solemn or Holy.

Compare the video of the Traditional Mass found in my signature with this video of a Novus Ordo Mass in LA: 70.86.228.61/movie.htm.

Pathetic 😦
Oh my,… cannot find the words,…
They turned the House of God and the Mass into a extravagant theatrical distraction from the True purpose?
I could never set foot into a Church like that.

There are many hymns sung in our church which are not Catholic. This bothers me a lot and I refuse to sing those are are “modern” hymns. I know Vatican II changed so very much but I wish they would have left our Catholic hymns alone. Last sunday the organist ( but most often pianist) announced that beginning tomorrow we would sing one latin hymn. She sounded a bit pained about it but I was very happy to hear that. Maybe this is the light at the end of a very dark tunnel.

Well minor changes have occured in my Diocese. With the election of Pope Benedict, the Seminary scrambled to re-introduce the teaching of Latin. Some Churches have begun having parts of the Mass being sung in Latin. The Novus Ordo in Latin is celebrated on certain feast days.

Patience I say 🙂

I’d like to add one comment and a question:
To those of you who have found a reverently done Novus Ordo Service, congratulations… but what about the other 98% of Catholics out here?

My parish hasn’t improved a bit since Pope Benedict was elected. In fact, it has become more liberal. We watch a movie to tell us about announcements right before Mass. I feel like shouting: SHOW TIME!

We have SEVENTEEN extraordinary ministers at larger Masses, and eleven at smaller Masses. The sacristan is expected to get into the tabernacle to get a host count. Corny music (every Mass but one has drums and guitars). Teenagers invited to gather round the altar during the consecration.

My family needs to address these things, but I have no idea where to start. 😦

Mahoney’s Mass there actualy reminded me of a cross between some kind of pagan ceremony and an evangelical service.

Our “new springtime” is in full swing.

I think those likely to follow a simple example are the same priests who were likely to recognize the traditional wisdom of the example (of His Holiness) to begin with. None of the silliest elements of American liturgy will be solved by papal example because the perpetrators don’t really care what the pope thinks, even, by the way, when that thought is translated into law.
How true 👍

It’s amazing how a small change can be viewed by some as an improvement. Wake up folks, these are bones they are throwing out to appease the conservatives. Yeah sure you’re getting a little Latin at your “conservative” parrish, St. Lukewarms’ . But around the corner at Our Lady of the Holy Rollers, they’re still swayin’ to the charismatic beat. All part of the smorgasboard. If you’re a stick in the mud… you go the Indult… a middle of the roader… you attend the “conservative” mid-to-low-abuse-tolerance-Novus Ordo service… and if you’re really “with it” you go rock out at the nearest circle in the round style church with the tabernacle and kneelers removed (because of the distractions they cause).

Where’s my pepto bismol?
Could not have said it any better 👍 👍

I just returned from Mass. We were supposed to sing a real, live, Catholic hymn in latin but someone apparently got cold feet and it was in english. Oh well the thought was there I guess.

But seriously, no matter what Pope Benedict XVI does in his pontificate, its going to take generations to recover what has been lost. Small battles still have to be won.
HUH???, Back up the bus… He gave communion to a known Protestant (Bro. Roger) … He has harbored and given promotion to the likes of Bernard Law and the former San Fransicso Arch-Bishop (who’s name escapes me now). He was one of the chief archetects of the vatican II revolution who was in with the likes of Hans Kung. He looked like a rock star at the last World Youth Day (that bastien of piety, sactity and reverence). This list could go on and on.

What exactly are we expecting him to change and in which direction?

Well, Fr. Ratzinger may have helped draft some documents, but you’ll also find Abp. Marcel Lefebvre voted for them. That’s why I reject his modernist priestly society.

Bernard Law, years before retirement age, was mothballed to a position typically held by a non-voting cardinal.

Fr. Ratzinger helped form the counter-movement to the excesses of the “Spirit of Vatican II.”

Pope Benedict inherited World Youth Day.

Even if you don’t agree with all of his actions (and I don’t), it’s clear that his pre-papal thought was highly critical of the creation of the N.O. and its current celebration, calling for a slow reform of the reform.

  1. I’m not with SSPX but still… modernist? what? Modernism is what they are fighting against. You might want to read some of the writings of the last several Popes before John XXIII.
  2. Bernard Law should be in jail.
  3. Fr. Ratzinger is the personification of the “Spirit of Vatican II”
  4. He should have rejected the WYD fiasco and set a new course.
  5. Actions speak louder that words and way louder than “thoughts”. Redemptionis Sacramentum “called for” reform of the reform, but was ignored, the document on gays in the Seminaries “called for” reform but was watered down even before it was released. These last two Popes have “called for” a lot of things to appease conservatives but have never followed through with actions.

Tradydaddy,

Its because we’re “special”. I just have to drive 90 plus miles each way to find a very reverent NO Mass.
If I want an Indult Mass its the same distance but now I must leave the house at 5:30am and park in the industrial area. On snowy/icey days that isn’t about to happen.

Which is why my wife and I decided to try to influence our local parish. She joined the choir (3 folks plus an organist of sorts). I decided to start attending the liturgy committee meetings as an observer. They even let me say a few things, like why don’t we have a relic in the church and can’t we drop OCP music issues, can we try some simple gregorian chant
