Is Pope Francis formally teaching error?

I’m new to the church so I hope someone more well-versed in Canon Law can help me out. When I joined the church, I was told and believed that the Pope couldn’t teach error (he is infallible) when dealing with doctrine and teaching in an official capacity. Yet all the uprising over Amoris Laetitia seems to show that the Pope has taught an erroneous doctrine. What am I missing? Is Amoris Laetitia not considered an authoritative, ex-cathedra statement? If not, why don’t people just ignore the bad parts? If it is authoritative, what does this say for the doctrine of papal infallibility? Thanks for the help 🙂
