Is praying on your knees more effective than praying sitting down

It can, and often it does. What we do with our bodies affects our minds and spirits.

Perhaps that is why the phrase; “Cry out to the Lord!” Is used?

Whatever is a distraction for yourself should be avoided during prayer.

If praying on your knees is too uncomfortable, then sit in a chair.

If praying out loud is a distraction, then pray silently.

In fact, St Teresa of Avila said that interior prayer is the best place that God speaks to us.

Praying out loud could prevent you from listening for God’s voice within.

It’s what YOU feel that is important. It’s what’s on the inside that counts! Those who know, don’t say…and those who say, don’t know.

Peace to you friend.

Personally, I think I pray better sitting on the floor. Or on my knees, bowed over to the floor. Reminds me to whom I am offering praise. Then of course I just randomly talk to THE DIVINE. 😊

On my knees is less comfortable for me, so I make myself do it for a certain amount of time as penance. Then I sit for the rest of my prayers. I’m getting so I can kneel longer the more I do it.

It really depends on you.

Having bad knees would render any prayer on my knees wholly ineffective because I’d be in pain and unable to focus. Some of my best prayers have been snuggled deep within my blankets in a warm, cozy completely comfortable bed.

I’ve never found any sort of “mortification” helpful to my spiritual life. It depends on the person.

As far as out loud.

Until I was married and had kids I don’t think it much mattered spirtually. Although, I did like praying in song–singing to God–which was obviously out loud. Now most of my prayers are out loud for the sake of my husband and children.

I pray walking, doing chores around the livestock, sitting, kneeling, standing, laying down. This morning I was enacting the fire plan, it’s going to be hot the next few days, so bushfires will break out, and singing a hymn. The livestock seemed to enjoy it.
Sometimes I pray quietly, sometimes not.
I have no idea which of these is more pleasing to my Lord. He probably has no preference. Just pray always.

I think it also depends on the situation.
Adoration calls for kneeling if doable. But God won’t punish us for infirmity.
Sometimes sitting on a log int he woods is a very beneficial way to pray.
Be at peace.

A very hard to catch member of the herd let me walk up and pat her, must have liked the hymn 🐖🐣

Nice.

Mine are pretty docile unless they are hungry. Then they bite for blood. I’m like “dude, give me a second, I fed you this morning, and twice a day since you hatched, give me a break.” Hungry chickens remind me that the devil is real.

I have a grown rooster, I prayed for him once in Adoration, he had bravely defended his girls from fox attack overnight and was injured. He lost a spur, no doubt into the Fox, and a hen. He survived 🙏. He has 2 hens who have a communal nest atm. They both proudly hatched one egg a month or so ago. I think their chick is a rooster. The term mother hens is exemplified in these 2 with their chick.

I have a couple of ducks,- one 3yo girl, I just got a young drake, he is 3 mths. Foxes love the taste of duck. I would love geese.

Hello.

Wondering about the use of the word “effective” here because I still struggle with the idea that God is not the “gread vending machine in the sky.” Do you mean to use the word “appropriate?”

My knees hurt when I kneel too long so sometimes I sit. Sometimes I pray while on the bicycle, where it’s really hard to kneel.

I know kneeling is the logical thing to do most times when in front of the Creator of the Universe .
