Is praying on your knees more effective than praying sitting down

I didn’t have foxes where I lived but chicken hawks killed a lot of baby chicks. And once my lambs accidentally killed my rabbits

I don’t think The Lord minds what position we take for praying. As long as our prayers offer sincere honor & praise to our God. I often pray my Rosary lying in bed.

Takes more love. Prayer combined with sacrifice yields greater effect.

We have goshawks whistling hawks and wedgies ( wedge tail eagles) they are always looking for a meal. I do love the raptors though. There is one that circles me when I go outside. It’s prob sizing me up as a snack! Good thing it’s not a pterodactyl

Or praying out loud? Does any of this make a difference?
It definitely makes a difference.

Remember the verse, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’?

We are physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual beings. Sincerity in prayers does demand everything from us. Often ‘lip service’ means saying without doing but it can aslo to mean that we do not seriously mean what we pray.

Get on your knees or prostrate yourself when you pray to the Lord - it is a sign of ernest and humility before the God whom you cannot see.

That is why we have the rubrics during the mass. I know this is hard for the Protestants to understand - why we have to stand, sit and kneel. There are reasons behind the postures.

there is usually the opportunity to “half kneel”; ie your knees on the kneeler & your rear end in the pew

it is a very comfortable prayer position for those of us who’ve aching joints

i can’t even genuflect anymore without making a spectacle of myself 😦

God has surprised me several times when He sees that I need a more “hands on approach”. It’s been when standing, laying on my bed, sitting outdoors or kneeling in church. It has never been if I felt more holy praying when kneeling or praying more “holy” when kneeling. Sometimes I haven’t even started to pray but was “led to the wilderness and God spoke to my heart” as in Hosea 2. Totally God’s initiative and never ever mine.

God wants you to pray and it doesn’t matter if you kneel, sit or stand. Silent, whisper or speak loud. Look into St Dominic’s nine ways of prayer and you see that there are several ways - each of them good.

God knows what you are capable of doing, and He knows what is in your heart. When it comes to personal prayer, if kneeling helps you then kneel. If it doesn’t, or if you cannot kneel, then don’t. God is not more open to prayers said while kneeling than those said in other positions.

Kneeling is the ordinary position for certain parts of liturgy, but even then those who can’t kneel are not lesser participants than those who can. God does not require the impossible of us.

If your offering to God is harder for you to make, then it is worth more to God
If praying sitting down is easier than kneeling, then kneeling during prayer is worth more to God.
But lets also put things in context
This applies to someone that is very comfortable praying regularly
If say, you were just starting praying in your life, then perhaps kneeling might be a bit much of a task and may turn some people away from praying as it is making their prayer life too hard
Like any exercise, and I believe prayer is our souls exercise, you have to be wise about it. warm up, go at your own pace and always try to do better next time
Being able to do a bit extra for our Creator will only lead to good things
So do your best and you will be able to pray in the way Jesus wants you to.

My favorite position to pray is while kneeling. Kneeling for 20-30 minutes is hard, but not as hard as being nailed to a cross for three hours, not as hard as carrying a cross through the streets to Golgotha, not as hard as a mother watching her son die. So I will kneel to make my prayers, petitions, and thanksgiving.

There is a couple in their 90s who attend the same Mass I do. They both kneel with straight backs, not doing the 3-point kneel so many folks do. I have a severe arthritic condition which makes kneeling painful, but I offer the pain up to God, I use the pain as a way to focus my prayer to Him. I don’t think of my pain while kneeling, I think of Jesus. Kneeling in prayer is the very least I can do for him.

I agree with you there. It’s about us, not God - about our effort and ernest when we pray. Since we are a physical person, our posture instead of being indifferent is part of our effort. And prayer is about effort.

I would only pray lying down on the bed when I am lazy instead of properly kneeling or standing or sitting.

“As Damascene says (De Fide Orth. iv, 12), since we are composed of a twofold nature, intellectual and sensible, we offer God a twofold adoration; namely, a spiritual adoration, consisting in the internal devotion of the mind; and a bodily adoration, which consists in an exterior humbling of the body.” (STh II-II, q. 84, a. 2, c.)

“The prayer of him that humbleth himself, shall pierce the clouds: and till it come nigh he will not be comforted: and he will not depart till the most High behold.” (Sir 35:21)
