Hi, I’ve been having a really hard time praying the Rosary, since I can’t concentrate as well, and end up repeating prayers all the time. It gets me a bit frustrated and I feel happier just praying and speaking to God, and listening to praise Gospel. Am I still on the right track or should I still strive to pray the rosary?

It isn’t a must but I highly recommend praying it everyday since it has so many wonderful promises if you pray the rosary everyday…

Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the rosary, shall receive signal graces.

I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the rosary.

The rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies.

It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the heart of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.

The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the rosary shall not perish.
Whoever shall recite the rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its sacred mysteries, shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just he shall remain in the grace of God, and become worthy of eternal life.

Whoever shall have a true devotion for the rosary shall not die without the sacraments of the Church.

Those who are faithful to recite the rosary shall have, during their life and at their death, the light of God and the plenitude of His graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the merits of the saints in paradise.

I shall deliver from purgatory those who have been devoted to the rosary.
The faithful children of the rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in heaven.
You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the rosary.

All those who propagate the holy rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.
I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the rosary shall have for intercessors the entire celestial court during their life and at the hour of death.

All who recite the rosary are my sons, and brothers of my only son Jesus Christ.
Devotion of my rosary is a great sign of predestination.

Padre Pio prayed the rosary 35 times per day entire 15 decades ( sorrowful, joyful and glorious)

The rosary has changed my life so I would highly recommend it once again…

Here is an amazing miracle of the rosary

On August 6, 1945 during World War II, an atomic bomb was dropped on the town of Hiroshima, Japan. 140,000 people were killed or injured. There was a home eight blocks (about 1 kilometer) from where the A-Bomb went off . This home had a church attached to it which was completely destroyed, but the home survived, and so did the eight German Jesuit missionaries who prayed the rosary in that house faithfully every day. These men were missionaries to the Japanese people, they were non-military, but because Germany and Japan were allies during WWII they were permitted to live and minister within Japan during the war.

Not only did they all survive with (at most) relatively minor injuries, but they all lived well past that awful day with no radiation sickness, no loss of hearing, or any other visible long term defects or maladies. Naturally, they were interviewed and examined numerous times (Fr. Schiffer, a survivor, said over 200 times) by scientists and health care people about their remarkable experience and they say “we believe that we survived because we were living the message of Fatima. We lived and prayed the rosary daily in that home.”

Have you tried praying the rosary with scripture? There are several books for this to help you- one of my favorites is The Rosary for the Rest of Us by Brett Villalobos. He has scripture that you read before each decade and then 5-6 intentions for each mystery. I say one of these intentions after every other Hail Mary. I don’t know if I would get a whole lot out of the Rosary either if I did not have the scripture to read also, bc it is just so hard to concentrate without it. Remember, too, that even if you don’t use scripture and if you are just saying the prayers, it is still beneficial. As you do it more, it will get easier. Don’t worry about it too much if it feels superficial right now. It may feel that way, but it’s not. You are still getting benefit, and every time you say it you are getting better at concentrating even if you do not notice it.

its not a must but it is a blessing.
there are some days i have concentration issues and seem to repeat the same prayer over and over or in the wrong place but i figured maybe i am needing to focus on that prayer more for some reason. then somedays i have some really emotional breakthroughs when i pray the Rosary.
dont give up on it too soon and even though you pray the Rosary you should still be praying and speaking to God. the Rosary is in addition to your one on one time with the Father, Almighty.

There are also some apps (for Android and iPhone) that have scriptural and normal Rosary on them. I have both. If there are times that I feel distracted while praying, I use the scriptural rosary. The scriptural rosary takes only a few minutes longer. The regular apps are awesome, as well. They usually have wonderful artwork to accompany each mystery. Don’t give up! 🙂

Ask Our Lord and also Our Blessed Mother Mary to help guide you in your Rosary prayer.

Take your time and ‘feel’ what you are praying. I also get trouble concentrating while praying it but i wont be beaten into stopping saying the rosary. It is a beautiful prayer.

God Bless

This Catholic Answers Live radio show was incredibly helpful for me: catholic.com/radio/shows/the-rosary-in-your-life-6357#

According to Father Longenecker on the show, letting your mind wander while prayer the rosary is perfectly okay. Perhaps the Holy Spirit is trying to direct your thoughts to what you need to pray for or about. There is also no requirement to meditate on the mysteries. Basically, how you pray the rosary is up to you and everyone does it differently. Father Longenecker goes into great detail of the different ways you can pray the rosary and the different prayerful experiences you can have while praying it.

Sister Wendy Beckett explained that she does not pray the rosary; cannot mind the exact words, but it is how I feel also, It just does not “work” “gel”… on the other hand making rosaries and teaching others the rosary is a great love for me,

We are each and all so different are we not And so many ways for Jesus to give graces. My hands are always busy knitting to feed the poor. so that becomes a prayer also.

Many ways to pray .

And I am getting very old now and different wisdoms come with age. Concentration changes too.

Who told you that prayer is done to be happy?

Sometimes we receive consolation and joy, sometimes dryness, sometimes deep sorrow.

Prayer of the Rosary is extremely edifying - remember it is given to us by Our Lady - and it has the power to save souls and drive away the influence of the devil. This is spiritual combat and requires effort, and I have yet to meet someone who did not experience great distress in a temptation moving them to give up this holy form of prayer.

If the saints prayed and recommended the Rosary for 800 years, I think it’s a must.

First, please understand that some people on this forum are so attached to praying the Rosary and so devoted to the Blessed Mother that they cannot imagine anyone not loving this form of prayer and they will tell you that praying the Rosary is a must.

Second, you can be a fully functioning, extremely devout Catholic and NOT pray the Rosary. Some people are not in the right “spiritual place” to be able to pray the Rosary. Some simply prefer other forms of prayer to the Rosary. That’s one of the cool things about Catholicism - you can have your own personal devotion within the framework of being Catholic.

Do you feel drawn to pray the Rosary, or are you doing it only because you think you it’s something you “should” do? If it’s something you feel drawn to, then there are plenty of tips and resources here to help you overcome the issues you have. If you’re doing it only because you think it’s “required”, maybe you should continue to find a personal devotion that better suits you and maybe try the Rosary again later.

That was a great listen, thank you for sharing.

I only tend to pray the sorrowful mystery while praying the rosary. For me, it so meaningful and spiritual to pray with Our Dear Lords Passion at the front of my thoughts.

Remember to pray slowly, thoughtfully and always with Jesus in your heart.

It is not easy. It does seem repetitious. It is not meant to be easy and effortless. Keep in mind the suffering Our Lord went through at his passion and how little effort it will take for you to say the rosary with that thought in your mind.

I pray that you will find guidance from Mary and Our Lord.

God Bless

It is not a required devotion but it is still a highly recommended devotion by the Church.

The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and the Liturgy of the Hours, often referred to as the Divine Office, are the two official prayers of the Church. All other forms of prayer fall under the category of private devotion, which the Church neither requires or regulates.

As noted above, the Rosary has certainly been encouraged by many great saints. However, this does not make it a requirement in anyway for being Catholic, even a very devout one. In fact, many thousands of saints managed to have edifying and meaningful prayer lives well before the Rosary came into being.

Furthermore, while certain private revelations have indeed promised things to those who pray the Rosary, no Catholic is obligated in anyway to accept private revelations of any kind. Private revelation is not part of the deposit of faith and a good Catholic can accept all of them, some of them, or none of them as he/she so desires. Even if a pope accepted it along with every bishop and priest in the world, you could still be a good Catholic if you did not believe in it because again, private revelation is not something which requires assent on the part of the individual Catholic.

The caveat to all of this might be if one joined a particular religious community (Dominican Laity, Secular Franciscans, Third Order Carmelites, Benedictine Oblates, etc.) which had a certain private devotion as an important part of their spirituality. In that case, one could reasonably be expected to pray a particular private devotion. The Dominicans for example, have a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother, and private revelation suggests the Rosary given to St. Dominic by her. As such, the Dominicans tend to place some emphasis on praying the Rosary. In contrast, the Benedictines have no such tradition. Instead, they focus on the private devotion of Lectio Divina, and monks as well as Oblates to some extent are expected to work that into their private prayer lives outside of Mass and the Divine Office. I know monks who pray the Rosary, and I know monks who do not. They are good monks either way. However, in these examples, one would obviously know these things going in, so one would be making a free and open choice to commit to a particular spiritual approach and its associated forms of prayer.

If you wish to continue to try to pray the Rosary and are looking for a resource to help, I recommend this youtube page. It sets the Rosary and other devotions to music, and provides artwork related to the mystery you are contemplating, which helps one to focus on the contemplation of Christ rather than the words one is speaking, which is pretty much the whole point. youtube.com/playlist?list=PL784E4033C996322D

But remember though, it is not a requirement, and you are not a good or bad Catholic based upon your like or dislike of the Rosary or any other form of private prayer.

Try praying it with a group to begin with. Most parishes have Rosary groups - they often meet early in the morning before work.

You will find it so much easier to stay on track and not lose your place. 🙂

I agree with this. For some reason, the sorrowful mysteries were the only ones I ever made it all the way through. 🤷

The Lord be with you

I always struggled with prayer, found it almost impossible sometimes, but not now.

try and find a nice quiet place and just rest in gods peace and then just think “Lord please help me to pray” And wait and listen quietly. Then if you notice any thoughts or feelings think about it and ask god to help whoever you thought about or help you with the things you thought about.

try it, it might help+
