I noticed in another thread that there are some that pray these prayers. Are these requirements?
I read my Bible using the Catholic read the Bible and Catechism in a year plan and then I will usually pray for a few minutes each day asking for forgiveness of any venial sins I committed, asking for healing for people that I know, which includes my ex-wife, and I pray for my children. I generally do this before I go to work or after work if I stayed in bed a little longer than I should have.

None of these are required, as they are private devotions. However, you’ll find that centering prayer is a fusion of “new age” meditation techniques with Catholic prayer, and therefore is to be discouraged. You can read more about it on the ask an apologist section.

None of the prayers you cited are required for lay people. Certainly not centering prayer, which is not Christian. If you wish to pray while reading Scripture you may wish to try Lectio Divina. The Liturgy of the Hours is not a private devotion like the rosary. It’s the official daily prayer of the Church. There are versions for lay people: Christian Prayer and Shorter Christian Prayer (scroll down to see it). Lay people are encouraged to prayer at least Morning, Evening and Night Prayer if they can. Of course, other sanctioned prayer books are perfectly fine, as well. 🙂

Hi and welcome!
The LOTH is required in most if not all of the Holy Orders, but not by lay people. [you and me]
There are many Catholics of course who do use the Rosary and LOTH.

Praying the Rosary will change your life in many exciting ways. I pray that you will explore devotion to the Rosary.

I have learned quite a bit about the faith here, and the resources one can find here are never ending.

They are not required. I personally prefer a more direct relationship with Jesus Christ without all the rituals.

It sounds like you are doing just fine.

Not required but the rosary and LOTH are great when you know you should pray but just don’t have the words or know where to start.

Catholic mental prayer or meditaion might interest you as it will turn the reading you already do into prayer 🙂 The difference, I read somewhere, is that study is getting to know more *about *God, and mental prayer is getting to know God.

The divine integrity of the biblical script allows you to freely choose whatever devotion you, may. The pre-supposition is that you choose your patron saint, it helps a lot.

We’ll, that’s an easy one. I chose the Archangel Michael for my confirmation name, so I will always stick with him.
