If a baby was in jeopardy of miscarraige, and the mother then decided to have a priest come and give her the sacrament of the sick in order to try to save the baby that was in danger- would that child therefor be born without original sin? Since in receiving this sacrament all of your sins are forgiven.

Dear Beverly,

Even though the baby may benefit from the effects of the sacrament on the mother, it is the mother who is being anointed–not the baby. One must be baptized in order to receive any of the other sacraments. Further, one must have been born to receive any of the sacraments.
