Is recording off the radio piracy?

Is this music piracy if you record the radio, burn it to a CD and listen to it later?
 
Legally, I have no idea; however, no one seems to mind when one records a television show to watch later. I don’t see the difference in recording a radio show to listen to later provided you’re not intending to make multiple copies to share with friends or to sell.
 
Not if it is just for personal use. The legal problems arise when you record and distribute the recording. Happy listening. 😉

IANAL, but it’s not illegal for personal use (nor is making a backup copy of CD’s/DVD’s. Where you get into the legally questionable territory is in the re-distribution of said works.

However, as some of you in the homebrew PVR/DVR market, the RIAA/MPAA/large corporations are making this recording difficult and probably would like it to stop (even without personal use).

It is NOT illegal to record a radio or TV program.

Qy: how the heck do you burn a cassette to a CD? I have tonnes of music on cassette that I’d like to transfer to my computer & burn.

Last thing – it probably is illegal to make copies of the CD or distribute the music online.
