Is religion just a big cosmic punishment and reward system?

Is seem that all religions, including the Catholic Religion, boil down that? Do good, and get good. Do bad, and get bad.

This is found in the Catholic religion, but also in the “karma” concept of the Hindu religion.

Is that all religion is?
 
Karma says do bad, and get bad. Do good and get good. It does not address the inner part of you. With karma, even if you do good for bad reasons, you get good.

The Christian belief is to ‘be good’ and you get good. The problem is we have trouble being good. So God gave us help in that department. God is not a threat of hell, but an offer of heaven. God doesn’t send anyone to hell, rather he offers them an eternity with him. They then choose for themselves.
 
Our vocation as Catholics is in loving God and loving other people, doing the best we can to help others in little and big ways.
The commandments are based on preserving love and justice to our fellow humans, and in loving God who loves us.

Nope…at least for the true Christian religion. True Christian religion is just a big cosmic Love system. 👍

No that is not “all that religion is”.

For those who seek reward without effort such a charge seems easy to make. Yet even for such a person, if they want something badly enough they will sacrifice to attain it.

Consider the person who decides that they wish to improve their health, lose weight and exercise more. Do they not sacrifice? Do they not get books and equipment and look to others to tell them and discipline them and keep them on the right track?
Do they not give up foods that they like, rise earlier to exercise, go to the gym instead of “happy hour” etc…
Why do they do this?? So that they don’t get a disease and die…They recognize teh “cause and effect” of diet and exercise on health.

If people are willing to sacrifice so much for their temporal bodies, which will die someday anyway…Why do they bristle at the idea of spiritual - cause and effect - on the health of their soul which is eternal??

This is false. Wouldn’t it be nice if bad people had to suffer.
This false system of yours didn’t work for Theresa of Calcutta. She did good and suffered her whole life.
