Hi,

My DH went to ME weekend and did not find it helpful. I felt that dialoging was very unnatural. I am wondering if retrouvaille uses dialoging. I was hoping we would go and find better ways to commincate to one another . We do need help and maybe more than weekend encounter could offer. I think my husband would consider retrouvaille but not if it is just more dialoging.
thanks for any help.

Retrouvaille is set up the same as ME except the questions and presentations are different.

no they are two different programs, retrouvaille is for couples whose troubles are more severe, even those who have thought about divorce, and it is far more than communication strategies. call the Family Life office in your diocese and ask to speak to the people who run it in your area, and simply voice your concerns and ask them to describe the typical weekend

Marriage encounter weekends are for improving good marriages . Retrouvaille weekends are for marriages in serious trouble . The couples may already be separated or divorced. Yes, the main focus is a communication technique. Yes it is a type of dialogue.
There is a weekend and 6 follow up sessions. You need to be committed to using the tools that you are given. Try calling up the representative in your area and describe the problems you are having with the technique you learned. Perhaps they can assist you . There is also a conflict management aspect that is taught.

The Dialoguing technique takes practice. Don’t give up on it so quickly. It is unnatural at first , mostly because we do not learn how to communicate correctly in our society.

I’ve been on a Retrouvaille weekend and have done the post sessions. In fact , DH and I are doing the posts a second time because we needed more help. Don’t give up. It is working for us. SLOWLY Working. But hey progress not perfection!
