Do you believe in Santa Claus?I don’t know weather I do or not…I mean, its not as if the whole world would work together to lie to little children…is it? And I could swear I saw him once, riding through the sky on Christmas eve.And just a few nights ago, I saw strange green lights in the sky, and I think it might have been him on a practise fly.

On the other hand, if he IS real, why on earth doesn’t he tell everyone that Christmas is Jesus birthday??He says he comes to good people, but they’re not very good if they just use Christmas for presents and not to glorify Jesus! So why doesn’t he tell them?Do you believe in him?How can we know weather he is real or not?

He wouldn’t come to me last year(my father said he was too busy with all the new babies) and I don’t know if he will come this year, either. But it doesn’t matter because Christmas is JESUS’S birthday.Still, I have the distinct feeling that he is definitely real, and I see no evidence to the contrary. All my friends keep insisting that hes not real, but in my heart I cannot believe that.It makes me feel strangely sad every time I think about him…What is the truth?

To me, Santa IS the spirit of goodwill and giving. The warmth you feel in your heart when you give selflessly, to me, is “Santa”. So, yes, I believe in that Santa!

Our priest, who is very traditional and orthodox, talked about Santa in his last homily. He said recently a couple, who had small children, he was talking to said “Oh, we don’t allow our children to believe in Santa Claus…” He looked at them rather stunned and exclaimed “Why would you do that?” He went on to talk about allowing children a beautiful childhood memory, that Santa really existed in “St. Nicholas” and when children were old enough they could understand the connection between St. Nicholas and the “spirit” of Santa Claus.

Of course he’s real!!! He’s a canonized saint of the Catholic Church!!! He lived in Myra, Turkey-- he was a bishop their. He was known for his spirit of good-will and gift-giving. That’s why he is the patron saint of Christmas cheer. We have a small shrine with his statue in it next to our Christmas tree and our nativity.

santa…is actually based on st nicholas of myra…

so yes he is real…but not like the commercialised hollywood version…

but on the upside…you don’t need to write to him for something…you can pray and tell him…and unlike the ‘fake’ one that works only on christmas eve …the real one st nicholas is on hand to help us 24/7 every day all year

ANGELIC PEACE

And the more modern image of him tends to substitute for Jesus. I’m not objecting to interaction with Saint Nicholas. The modern “Santa Claus” image is very secular, though, and doesn’t give Jesus his due.

I know that ST. NICHOLAS is real, and I know that Santa wants us to have a spirit of giving instead of recieving, but does he actually fly on a sleigh and have reindeer and live in the North Pole and deliver presents?Thats what I amn’t sure about…

Well all that North Pole stuff comes under the heading of folk tradition. I love it. But when I had kids, I downplayed that and up-played the St. Nick part. Still, one year, after we left carrots for the reindeer, there where half-eaten carrots all over the back yard, and a few left up on the roof.

Go figure.

Yeah, he was real! He socked Arius at the Council of Nicaea!!!

Vo v’iki, vo v’iki.:

O who loves Nicholas the Saintly,
O who serves Nicholas the Saintly,
:Him will Nicholas receive,
And give help in time of need.
Holy Father Nicholas.

O who dwells in God’s holy mansions
Is our help on the lands and oceans.
:He will guard us from all ills,
Keep us pure and free from sins,
Holy Father Nicholas.:

Saint Nicholas, pray for us who love you.
O Father, humbly we beseech you.
:We will always praise your name,
Your great deeds we will proclaim
Forever, forever.:

Just for the record, there’s no “e” in Claus …it’s just “Santa Claus”

…a clause is part of a sentence.

🙂

Answering the poll question,
Do you believe in Santa Clause?
Of course, and that movie is now on DVD if you want to see it for yourself and believe it is a real movie.
😛

I put down “undecided” but I’m not really. I just didn’t know what else to put since my answer is both “yes” and “no”. Yes to the personafication of Christ’s message to children. No to the materialistic Santa that is commercialized. I love the picture of Santa Claus kneeling at Christ’s crib/manger! That says it all, I think.

I love Santa Claus. Besides celebrating Christ’s birth, that is the only thing I like about Christmas. I just love the look on my grandchildren and great- neices and nephews faces and their excitement on Christmas. When they all grow up I will feel like Scrooge. 😉

Of course he’s real (albeit, passed away). His real name was St. Nicolas, Bishop of Myra. He lived, I think, sometime in the 3rd century.

So of course he’s “real”. It’s silly when ignorant people say “Santa Claus isn’t real”. They have no idea he was a Catholic bishop from the third century.

Christmas for me is primarily Jesus’ Birthday 🙂 that’s what I try to celebrate… I was never really into Santa Claus, and I never really believed he’s real. (of course St Nicholas is real though :))

yes he is the white-bearded man who stopped, with his wife to help DD and I when we were stranded on the freeway near Raleigh, just outside the emergency phone zone. They took us to get gas, took us back to the car, and followed us to make sure we made it okay, refused any money and just left us with a feeling of joy and peace that cold, snowy December day.
