This thread has gone off on a tangent.Mike

This thread has gone off on a tangent. Thank you all for your (name removed by moderator)ut…I’m signing off now.
That’s my loss Sir, I would have enjoyed debating a self styled Heritic. Instead I’m left with people qouting Dogma. I can only trust that you will monitor this thread and see this post.

BeautifyU, here is a major source for what i know. i am sure you are sick of reading by now, and have been reading a million books, but here is another one: He Came To Set The Captives Free. by Dr. Rebecca Brown, MD. this book is the conversion story of a woman who at one time was one of the top five witches in north america, and who actually married satan, signed a contract for her soul, and allowed many demons to posess her. she goes into great detail about satans workings and some of his biggest secrets. it will be a major source. if you read this book, approach it with prayer and persistance. inside the front cover is a warning that Satan does not want you to read it, and it is very true. i no longer htave the book, so i cannot quote anything from it… Another common idea to catholics, is in the Prayer to St. Micheal the Archangel. in this we say this, which clearly talks about demons(evil spirits):St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen…

a sight that would be some good informative reading: bible.com/answers/ademons.html

there are many places in the bible where it talks about demons being cast out, i will try and find as many as i can:
Matt 4:1
Matt 4:24
Matt 8:28
Matt 9:32
Matt 10:8

Matt 12:22
Matt 15:22
Matt 25:41
Mark 1:32
Mark 3:15
Mark 5:1
Mark 6:13
Mark 7:26
Mark 10:37
Mark 16:9
Mark 16:17
Luke 4:1
Luke 4:33
Luke 8:27
Luke 9:1
Luke 9:42
Luke 10:17, 18
Luke 11:14
(all references to devils or demons in John are asociated with Judas’ betrayal)
Most of the references to demons or devils in the rest of the new testament are just warnings against satan himself.
hope this list helps a bit, and i hope someone else can give more.

I looked up that book… A LOT of people seem to say that the woman basically made the whole thing up. I understand Satan would get people to say that to avoid people from finding the truth, but they present rather… secure evidence.

Any comments?

I’d like too add my 2 cents. I just finished a book called the “Prayer of the Warrior” by Michael Brown. I have always believed in the exisitance of satan and after reading the book am not armed to deal with him. Yes satan is real and we need to be on guard and pray pray and pray.

God Bless
Kathleen

i completely agree on your theory LazerLike, it very easily could be a bunch of BS, but at the same time, isnt that all Satan ever wants any of us to beleive? The less anyone knows, the easier it is for him to run free destroying lives, and if no one puts the blame on the problem, but rather on bad luck, or God being all pissy, then no one has any reason to fight the war that is so clearly stated in the bible. A friend of mine, when she was a baby, had her blood taken, and offered at one of those gatherings (witchcraft is very large where i am from), and only through the intense prayer of her family, friends, and church was she able to be freed from the bonds Satan had on her life. so even if the story is completely made up, the information is not, it is very true.

Our Lord was tempted by the devil, therefore, of course the devil’s real!

I don’t understand why some people think the devil doesn’t exist!

If you say the devil doesn’t exist, then you’re saying that the Scriptures are wrong because it DOES mention the devil!!! How much more clear does that have to be? 😉

Why do you not understand what I am saying? Because you cannot bear to hear my word. 44 You belong to your father the devil and you willingly carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks in character, because he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 But because I speak the truth, you do not believe me. The above from John’s gospel is perhaps the clearest esposition of who the devil is. The devil’s power comes from deception. A person who claims to be a “worshipper of the devil” can’t really know what they are saying because a person truly in the grip of the devil would claim to be serving God.

The devil has power as long as people believe in things that aren’t true. As the truth comes out, and as people put their faith in it, the power of the devil diminishes. In the face of complete truth, the devil is powerless.

Let us pray for the day when “knowledge of God covers the Earth as waters cover the sea.” Then the devil will be something we don’t have to worry about.

peace

-Jim

CJE:
Satan’s greatest deception is making people believe he does not exist.
I agree 100%!!! I have just within this past month come to that conclusion. For years when things went wrong I’d feel that God had abandoned me, be down, be depressed, or blaming myself because I wasn’t believing enough or doing XYZ, etc. Finally I realized that Satan is real and is at work and that it was the greatest deception all of those years I believed there was no such thing! Now it’s so much easier to believe and know that God is with me in my trials and to be strong and stand in faith against those things that come against me.

In my absence I have drastically changed my views to the point that the story of Lucifer’s fall seems not only possible, but provable, to an extent. This change in views is based largely on my rereading of the Bible and my completion of the book I mentioned earlier, Glimpses of the Devil.

Here is my argument for the Lucifer/Satan connection:

In the Old Testament, Isaiah makes this statement:

“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.” -Isaiah 14:12-15

Isaiah is comparing Nebuchanezzar to Lucifer, in this case a figure who thought that he could become greater than God but was cast down to Hell. While some may argue that this is referring to Venus, that can be disproved. While the name is the same, the story that Isaiah ties to it is different. It is possible that Isaiah identified this mystery figure who rebelled against God as “Lucifer” because it is the name attributed to Venus in a legend. In the legend, Venus suffers a terrible fate. The name Lucifer means “morning star.” So, Isaiah identified this once-exalted figure who suffers a terrible fate with the name Lucifer, just as we today might call a traitor “Benedict Arnold.” It was not uncommon around that time period to “borrow” names from a mythological figure with similar attributes to the figure being named. So, perhaps this exalted angel was not named Lucifer. But that is the name that I identify the traitorous angel with, just as Catholics know the pope as Benedict and not Joseph Ratzinger.

In the New Testament, Jesus makes a statement with a striking resemblance to Isaiah’s statement:

“And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.” -Luke 10:18

Yes, I know I refuted this statement as evidence before, but because this statement does not resemble a typical metaphorical statement of Jesus’ and because it resembles the verse from Isaiah, I take it as proof straight from Christ’s mouth that Satan fell from Heaven, which fits with the story recounted in Isaiah.

Then, I take the following passage from Glimpses of the Devil:

“‘So many times I have heard it said that God created us humans in His own image. What does that mean? I’ve wondered. What I concluded, ultimately with certainty, is that being created in God’s image means, above all else, God created us as creatures with free will - with total free will, the freedom to choose whatever we want, no matter how wise or stupid, the freedom to move in any direction at all. In other words, we are created with a freedom that demons don’t begin to have and that you yourself, Satan, can hardly begin to understand. Even though most Christians think of angels as exalted beings, higher than themselves, it finally dawned on me that this common Christian vision is wrong. The reality, I believe, is that by giving us free will God created us higher than the angels, that it is not the angels who are superior to us but we who are more fortunate than them. And that’s why you hate us, isn’t it, Satan? You hate human beings so much because God decided to create them higher than even you who were once the bearer of light and the chief of all angels. Oh yes, your position was once exalted indeed, and you simply could not stand it when God decided to create creatures even more exalted than you. No, you would not stand for it. You refused to tolerate it. And that is why you rebelled against God, isn’t it? And why you have hated the human race from its beginning.’ The snake [The possessed. The author speaks extensively about the snakelike appearance of the possessed throughout the whole experience] had stopped writhing, intent on looking at me with murderous rage. I knew it would never admit the correctness of what I had just said.” -Glimpses of the Devil: A Psychiatrist’s Personal Accounts of Possession, Exorcism, and Redemption, pp. 187-188

I do not know why the author chose the word “correctness” to describe what he had preached, but I am sure that, since he is foremost a scientist (as he states in his book), he does not take the word “correctness” lightly.

What do I have to say about my sudden conversion? Nothing except: God works in mysterious ways.
