Hello everyone,
I have posted a similar thread before but as this is the second time this has happened I could not ignore the coincidence. On friday (yesterday 6th. march) I went to a church near where I was working that day, I had previously looked up confession times on their website. I walked up through the town centre, waited 10 mins. for the church to open, and in I went.
A little old lady asked me if Fr. was hearing confessions, I said yes according to their website they are, but only for 25 mins. before Mass was due to start. We sat and waited, and waited, the old lady got up about 4 times looking for someone to say for definite whether Fr. was indeed hearing confessions, she was adamant she must have absolution.
Well, my lunch break was fast coming to an end when at last Fr. appeared,great I thought, I am still in with a chance, he said a prayer and went into the confessional, the old lady went in, my time was up, I had an appointment and I was already pushing my luck!!.
I HAD to go, it turned out that the confession day had been altered but it was not changed on the website!!:eek:, also Fr. was doing it as a favour. This is the second time this has happened at this church, when next I am working in that town I will not bother, I will wait and go elsewhere, am I being paranoid?.

Personally, I think it was just a case of bad circumstances, and not the Ol’ Scratch. Things go wrong, but ascribing something like this to Mr. Nasty is just giving him more power to him than he really deserves. Not to say that he wouldn’t try to make use of something like this, and I think he may be making use of your worry.

Nope you just didn’t phone to make sure which you need to do if your in a parish other than your own. Most parish websites are not up to date, priests don’t have the time and things in a parish can change a lot, this is why its very important to really integrate yourself into your parish so you can know what’s happening from week to week, most priests announce any changes at the Sunday mass which should work fine for the parishioners at that parish who after all should be going to Mass every Sunday.

So next time phone ahead and check if your wanting to go in a strange parish. In the meantime I advise you to contact your parish priest and make an appointment for him to hear your confession, he will probably try and fit you in if he can.

Satan works in every way he can. Once, I went to confession, but left because the line was too long. Was this Satan? Absolutely. I went and ate lunch, where I convinced myself to return, so I gathered up the patience to go back and confess. Boy, did that feel goood! 🙂

Many thanks for your kind replies, I probably am a bit paranoid, but I still think Old Nick is working in the background somewhere!. And yes I will go to confession as soon as I can, it was just that I thought I had the time and opportunity, it seemed like a good idea at the time :o

Heehee, the very first time I attended Mass (not counting the one or two times I went as a teenager accompanying a Catholic family), SOMETHING got in my eye. It felt like a log–it was really painful. I couldn’t even see out of that eye!

Under normal circumstances I would have bailed. But I had made a promise, so I stayed in the pew, gritting my teef, and I made it through. The second I left the building and got in the car the eye thing dissipated.

Take that, Satan.

This happens all the time, unfortunately. Like someone above posted, websites are often very out of date. I really wish they’d work a little harder on that…😦

You might look into who “they” are. Perhaps “they” could use a little assistance. 🙂 After all, “they” are probably just one person. :eek:

The people involved in the regular running of church affairs or related activities often forget to tell the person who maintains the website that something has changed.

As a person who tries to maintain the website of a small church I can tell you that it’s not easy to get volunteers to help out. Even when the site is set up so that just about anyone can keep it updated.

Maybe you could volunteer to help! (“You” being anyone reading this. 😉 )

A priest only has so much time, keeping the internet page up to date really cant take priority over say providing the last rites to a dying person for example.
