Is "saying grace" necessary?

Is it necessary to say grace before and after meals?

And could you please show me how to say it. Do I say a specific prayer or do I just say what I want? What do I do with my hands?

It is a pious custom for many Christians, but it is not absolutely necessary.

There is no set rule about how one must say grace. You may fold your hands if you wish; you may make the sign of the cross before and after meals if you wish; you may pray whatever prayer you wish.
