If someone cannot physically produce children (due to illness or what have you), is it then a mortal sin to have sex? Since the reality that it cannot bring forth life would exist, would it then be wrong?

Since one would know they cannot produce life, would it be a sin to have sexual intercourse outside of marriage as well?

Dear Curious,

Genital behavior is a mortal sin outside of marriage—whether one can produce offspring or not. The context for such behavior is always, always marriage. It is the physical expression of the vows made at the altar. For more, read: “Good News About Sex and Marriage” by Christopher West.
