I am a Catholic trying to follow the Teachings of the Church. My wife just became pregnant. Is sex during pregnancy allowed? Is it morally acceptable to God? Is it morally recommended or preferred? I want to know the truth.

I am asking this because it seems to me that one of the requirements for the marital act to be valid is not being met or needed anymore, that is the procreative aspect of the relation.

Of course, the unitive aspect is still present.

If I may, I would like to ask for official pronouncements or teaching of the Church regarding this. Or perhaps a Cathecism reference if there is any.

I will be most thankful to whom may assist me with this clarification.

Best regards,
Alejandro

sex during pregnancy is fine & allowed (unless your OB/GYN says otherwise for health medical reasons)…

First of all congratulations on this wonderful new life God has blessed you and your wife with.

Don’t short change the unitive aspect. During pregnancy, your wife may need even more to feel that you still want to give yourself to her. Her body is going to change shape and the last thing she needs is for her husband to not want to receive her. Continuing your intimate relationship can go a long way in helping her feel as beautiful as she will look pregnant. As long as there’s no medical condition that would put the child at risk…enjoy.
