is it okay to tell other people about your religion and debate different points of their religion and my religion if its okay with them?

my point of view is: im aware of other peoples feelings about their deeply held beliefs but if catholicism is the true religion shouldnt you share it politely and respectfully with others? they can of course make the desison to follow Jesus or not. i would absolutely never ever try to force a person to follow Jesus.

(by the way, is my point of view correct for a faithful catholic following Jesus and his Vicar on earth, the pope?)

We’ve all been commanded by Christ to spread the faith to the ends of world so, yes, I would say that it is perhaps even your duty to share the Truth with everyone you know!

In my opinion, though, our goal with evangelizing should be to make as much of a positive impact as we can (so I don’t think that we’re necessarly always being called to aggressively preach the gospel to others)! I think sometimes we are being called to be direct and other times we have to just make it known to people that we are Catholic and then live by example (the same way that Mother Teresa did).

At the end of the day only the Holy Spirit can change a person’s heart… so prayer is another important aspect of evangelizing!

shrugs Why not? People share ideas all the time. I like talking about my path, it’s why I created all my “Ask a Pagan” threads (that and there’s a lot of misinformation going around about what Paganism is and is not).

However, I think it’s good to keep this in mind:

“Preach the Gospel always and, if necessary, use words.”

I think you can talk at people all you want, quote this theologian or that text, but if your actions don’t align with your words, you’re not going to get anywhere.

Aaaah… on that subject. I’ve almost given up completely…

You know, my sister and mum use to pester me about what I believed so much, and put me down for it… I just gave up. I stopped going to church, I hardly ever wear a cross even.

I use to go on and on and on about what I believed and I loved talking to other religious people and atheist about all their thoughts and ideas. But now, nothing. It’s just dead because I was so criticized for my beliefs.

Sorry, not really for your thread. Off topic maybe even.

Answer to thread starter; maybe you shouldn’t do it.

So then you scared em off? Sometimes the best way to help other’s is to be an active listener.

No worry somewhere down the road something you said will be swimming around in their mind. I still remember my parents saying “You know it won’t hurt you pray and attend church” 😉

Course when the topic of religion actually comes up its a different situation.

Peace

Yeah…

But we are all in the same boat here. I’ll pull through in good time. Thanks.

I certainly think so. 😃

I think about the Apostles, the martyrs, the great saints, the wonderful clergy, those in who serve so faithfully in religious life. If all of these do a thing, and if the Church is to go into all the world and do that same thing, it sounds like an area where I could certainly grow! And, obviously, there are overbearing or annoying techniques that should be avoided. But I’ve found that openly living a Christian life (and soon to be a Catholic life 👍) has allowed opportunities to discuss our Faith with others. Often, in fact, it has been those others who initiate the conversation, simply because they see that we don’t live or act like the world. So we’re not forcing anything on anyone, but we’re still showing the love of God to those who need it. Sometimes showing the love of God allows us to proclaim the truth of God!

So, I think your point of view sounds great!

Well, if you’ve ever read scripture, Jesus himself commands us to bring the gospel to all people. So to answer your question, is it okay, well actually it’s more than ok, we’re commanded to.

Francis said something to the effect…“Preach the gospel at all times, and when needed use words.”

Paul indicated we are “letters” to be read by the world…unless we “walk the walk”, “talking the talk” has little impact…so share your faith and when necessary “use words”.
