Probably should have asked this earlier, seeing as how the steam sale is fixing to end, but is skyrim worth buying? I tried morrowind and can’t get into it. The graphics are dated, and the menus seem clunky.

Having said that, I want to get into a hardcore RPG, but is skyrim any good? It’s the one that comes to mind first for me at least, and it’s on sale now, so I wonder is it worth getting? Anything I should watch out for given its an M rated game? (I couldn’t even hand the zombies in half life 2 😦 )

I haven’t played HL2. What about the zombies bothered you? There are definitely evil critters all over Skyrim and you can definitely choose to be one of 'em, and of course there’s the usual “dark god” stuff, as there tends to be. Then, it’s totally a sandbox game, so it’s up to you to really make your way.

I dunno, it’s a pretty awesome game. The visuals are stunning. The world is vast, open and spectacular to behold. The gameplay is a lot of fun!

I don’t much care for the skill system in Skyrim, nor in any of the Elder Scrolls games. It seems to me clunky beyond belief, non-intuitive and overall just… lacking.

Other than that it’s a great game.

a zombie in hl 2 is basically when a headcrab attaches to a human host and takes over its brain functions. The human is screaming in pain while throwing heavy objects at you. The only way to dispatch the headcrab is to kill the host. A little intense for me. Skyrim doesn’t seem to have a lot of gore or anything. That’s what bothers me most.

Now that I think about it. Back in the 90s I’d happily play a game where I bash a guy’s head in, but it was never rendered as graphically as it is today, so it was easier to enjoy such things. Now that you can accurately (or gratuitously) render said head bashing as wit would look in real life, it looses all its appeal to me.

YES!! Skyrim is so dope! You can even create your own character, its a pretty violent game though, but its still awesome

I bought it on sale on Black Friday; it is amazing.

I would also check out the Mass Effect trilogy – you can get all three games for $60 now.

I think it depends upon the system that you have. I heard that it gets laggy on the PS3. I’d like to get it but I don’t know how it is now if there is any updates to it.

Oh yes. Yes. YES! A THOUSAND TIMES YES!!! If I’m wrong, SHOOT AN ARROW TO MAH KNEE!!! XD

Anyways, it’s nothing like previous games I’ve tried. The spell system is relatively simpler and you have quicker access to magic early in-game. Same goes for item crafting (although gold still seems hard to farm for me).

it is excellent. However, please try to justify the stupid skill system in the Elder Scrolls.

You do have a great deal of freedom in Skyrim in how you choose to play, so you can play as a stealthy character that avoids killing whenever possible. The game is still 50% off at GamersGate.com, you get a Steam key from there.

I would actually think that it’s an honest and admirable attempt to discourage level grinding. Skill grinding dampens that but the concept of growing your character through usage of skills instead of general experience points does have a more natural flavor to it. 😛

What stupid skill system are you talking about? The skill system that actually encourages players to use certain skills to level them up?

I’d be buying it for PC. if that helps. Like I said, now that the steam sale is over, I’d have to pay full price.

Also as before, I bought morrowind and just couldn’t get into it, mostly due to the ridiculous amount of reading involved.

Skyrim is definitely worth buying. The hours and hours you can spend on just one character make the cost per hour of play time nonexistent.

It is a marvelous game, I think it is rated M for violence and drugs (alcohol and skooma)

I think that Skyrim is not worth buying.
Yeah, you’d think that Skírim is harmless fantasy. But what is the spells are actual and the game itself contains “dirty stuff”?

My answer is slightly different. I really liked Skyrim although I’ve played through almost none of the plot. I’ve spent most of my time traveling the world and collecting plants for alchemy and then working on smithing. I guess I’m some what simple minded that way. I like hunting the animals (wolves, bears, etc) and then making leather crafting projects. And of course all clothing changes your character so I’ve play “Barbies” a lot with my avatar. I found out you could have dogs as companions so I have one of those following me around now too.

My DH on the other hand also really liked Skyrim but he actually worked on the plot. I watched him work through it some and nothing seemed overly violent (for video games now a days) and for the most part he played a good character.

I think Skyrim is fun but it really depends on what type of gamer you are.

So does basically every television show, movie, song, etc. nowadays. True, there are some mildly suggestive comments, and a particular book that alludes to relations between a human and argonian, but so long as you avoid sexual mods, then Skyrim is actually one of the cleaner games on the market. (also, your link 404’s)

As to the OP, I have dropped a significant amount of time on Skyrim, so much so that I purchased it twice, once for my wife to play on teh 360 (doesn’t like to play Elder Scrolls on the Computer) which I also played through to completion, and then again on the PC when it went on sale for modding and because I can make it more to my liking on the PC. I do not regret a single cent spent on it, it has provided me with countless hours of relaxation and enjoyment.

I definitely recommend it to you ^^

I’m guilty of playing Barbie with any avatar I’m able to! I tend to be more loyal to games that I can modify my face, hair, and clothing. It’s part of the experience for me. As more options like this come out I’ve become spoiled and tend to avoid games where you have to be male or look the same the whole time. I also prefer open worlds so I can run around and just play with stuff - all my characters on Skyrim are apoths and blacksmiths. 👍

We’ve played on on pc and 360. PC is fun because of the mods you can download. I also play an MMO online, though, and when I really sit down to put some serious hours into a game I like to curl up on the couch when it’s an option. Because in a chair at a computer isn’t lazy enough for me! 😛

Not this topic again! DX
If real spells were anything like Skyrim, we Christians would be either DEAD or using the science behind them to create our own variations.

I actually PRAY it’s the latter. Cuz seriously, you can’t get any more Jack-Chick-Cheesy than giving super powers to devil worshipers while so-called ‘faithful’ are martyred. The end. Ugh.

Seriously, how I would love to be a real mage of Winterhold.
