Is sleeping together (no sex) when engaged a sin?

If my fiancé and I sleep together without having sex, is it a sin? Bible verses or catecism references that talk about this? For the record, we used to have sex when we were dating, then we stopped because we realized it was wrong, but we continued having sleepovers. We’ve stopped that too a while ago, but to be honest, I don’t know of any theological reason supporting this for when you’re engaged. Please enlighten me, I’m eager to learn:)

It is an extreme near occassion of sin especially for those who have fallen together before, and it is scandalous, “avoid the very appearance of evil.”

If you were having sex before and you now continue to crawl around in the same bed together, one thing is highly likely to lead to another.

If you’re getting married anyway, it’s easier to just sleep separate, and wait till you are actually married to resume.

Why do you think being engaged changes anything? If something is a sin before marriage, it is still a sin when you are merely engaged.

If it is common for an engaged couple to sleep together, but not have sex then I would not be impressed with their restraint but rather worried for their sexual marriage…

LMAO. Hoosier-Daddy Why would you be worried about there sex lives when married?. Just because an engaged couple sleeps next too one another without ending up having sex doesn’t mean they’re lacking the desire too. They could very much want too have sex but choose not too, no matter how difficult that maybe. Married couples sleep next too one another all the time but that doesn’t mean they’re having sex every night. SMH

This question, as many on Catholic Answers are, is ‘how close can we get to the edge without falling off?’

The saints were generous with God. They stayed far away from the edge. As you are single right now, show God your resolve to love him and walk in his grace. You could offer up this ‘sleeping together’ in the same bed to repair for past sins. Maybe someone spends the night on the couch. A little bit of discomfort. Show God, and show each other, that these decisions of faith matter. They will strengthen your faith. Encourage each other to be better, to be stronger. Help each other to make good choices. This is a great place to start.

Right. And if people truly felt secure about what they were doing, they wouldn’t need to ask a bunch of strangers on CAF forum for (name removed by moderator)ut.
