LSD and marijuana help you, the individual, create more entertainment for self. That’s all it is: entertainment. It doesn’t help humanity, society, or others. It is not sacrificial. Habitual pleasing of the self creates soft people. America and Europe are entertaining ourselves out of true love relationships and into a slow cultural take-the-easy-feelgood-way-out death, but our egos don’t want to admit it.
I disagree. When people are entertained then they emit a happiness which has an effect on others.

Yes, but the point is that when the pursuit of personal pleasure becomes one’s lifestyle or primary goal in life, then the individual starts to choose self over others. When people choose self over others, relationships break down, and the next generation has a hard time learning sacrificial love. If we sacrificed 95% of our time for work and others, and had the free will power to limit our personal pleasure to 5%, then I would say we’d be fine. But look at all the people struggling and suffering with stimulate-the-pleasure-center-of-my-brain addictions out there. Easier not to go there in the first place.

I agree with you on this. Is smoking marijuana going to lead to a greater break down of relationships then other legal drugs?

I can’t. I read it in a health magazine in the doctor’s office and didn’t think to write down the issue. I did find this:
nida.nih.gov/researchreports/marijuana/marijuana3.html

And this quote:
Researchers with the National Institute on Drug Abuse say the active chemical in marijuana, THC, causes the body to overproduce a protein called ApoC-111. ApoC-111 is linked to high triglycerides (blood fats) because of problems with the breakdown of blood fats in the body.
The study results are published in the May 13 issue of Molecular Psychiatry.
The researchers note that marijuana’s effects from heavy, long-term use have been linked to neuorological problems such as learning difficulty and strokes.

No mention of heart issues but mention of other possible long-term damage.
Sounds like people who smoke the weed need to keep an eye on their trigs. Not a problem for someone who goes in for regular blood work that includes a lipid panel.

If so, is it because it is illegal? Because from what I know, marijuana is no less healthy than smoking a cigarette or eating a big, greasy McDonlads hamburger!
A great book I used to hand out to students was called : Marijuana, time for a closer look! by Curtis L.Janeczek. Healthstar publications,Columbus,Ohio it was first published in 1980…Healthstar Pubications, pobox 8426,Columbus,Ohio. a comic book went along with this great expose of the poison as well as a short film. I used to show it to my students .some of the chapter headings: A matter of Chemistry,Marijuana and the lungs, the brain, dope and driving, grass, genes and chromosomes, immunity,…when word got out that a certain teacher was anti-drugs and doing something in the trenches I received all kinds of threats but my whole life has been uphill and against the wind.A chemical society is a society easy to lead by the nose into the dark tyranny of leftism and thus death of the soul…the truth is there if one wants to see it…

People that smoke weed are easier to control? Yes, the hippies of the 1960’s really conformed to traditional ways and didn’t cause any troubles for the government. You know they supported whatever the government did, especially vietnam.

Part of the reason weed is illegal is because it actually causes people to question how things are.

And “dope” is still a slang word used today, but it mostly refers to heroine now.

And there is a huge difference between alcohol and weed.
The only thing a nonconformist hates worse than a conformist is another nonconformist who doesn’t conform to the prevailing standards of nonconformity.

Beer is a useful way of converting perishable grains to a storable comestible.
Which is surely why it is still produced today. Beer is no longer just a way to store surplus grain; its production is an industry in its own right and an expansive one at that.

To answer the OP, it can harm your body and your body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit:

Just an aside…trusting the Drug Enforcement Agency to tell the truth about marijuana is like McDonalds telling people not to eat beef or the Church telling people that fornicating with a condom is a-ok with God. DEA has a vested interest in maintaining the status quo. After all, DEA and other police agencies would have less access to resources (through anticonstitutional–worse than unconstitutional–forfeiture and seizure laws) if marijuana were legal or regulated and they won’t have it!

Ideologically, I just don’t get it, either…after all, isn’t Republicanism supposed to be about “getting government out of our lives?” Or is it really: “Government in YOUR home but not in MY corporation or business.”

I agree. The bottom line is that alcohol and cigarettes do far more damage to the body and to society than marijuana. If everyone that smoked cigarettes and drank alcohol smoked weed instead, the world would be a better place.

Well said. Well said indeed. Exactly what I would have said. Thisis my biggest question. How can people be allowed to drink and feel good doing it, and yet I cannot smoke a bit of weed just enough to feel slight effects but not enough to get super stoned?? It is unfair and its bizarre.
as one student used to tell me with a smirk." Mr.Pas,I have been smoking pot for 3 years now and have not found it habit forming! How many would get on a plane with a pot smoking pilot rather then with a pilot that smoked regular coffn nails? The rejects of Woodstock are not nice to look at…which ones are still alive that is! Notice how non are out there marching against these latest no win wars…the marching orders have not been ordered! As one who also was against Korea and Nam ,as I knew they were destined to be no win wars and a victory for communism, its soooo easy to see the lack of logic in here with this poison! Thats why the name 'pot’is used…mamas food in the pot as the kid comes home from school…all of the other names were tried and tossed. The original name for drugs was Dope! but during ww2 the ruling class changed the deft.of dope to become.not an evil substance but information.and got away with it! After the war was over dope again became a word for mind boggling substances…when with the emergence of a middle class the establishment changed the word again to such things as weed, joint, etc etc till pot was chosen since it reminds a kid of a nice substance…ie mamas cooking…read chaper three in my book…“how the public can be conditoned like Pavlovs mutts”…see ya at the bookstand…Pas

"cannabis is listed in the 1929-1930 Physicians’ Catalog of the Pharmaceutical and Biological Products of Parke, Davis & Company as an active ingredient in ten products for cough, colic, neuralgia, cholera mordus and other medical conditions, as well as a “narcotic, analgesic, and sedative.”

I wonder what the Churches position on Cannabis was during the early 1900’s when you could get some cannabis extract for something as simple as a cough or if you were having trouble going to sleep at night?

Well, it would probably be safer to get on a plane with a pilot who was smoking marijuana than on a plane with a pilot who was drunk. No responsible pilot would do either.

in moderation where its legal? For medicinal purposes given by a physician? No.

The answer to this question is simple.

In places where marijuana use is illegal it is sinful to use.

This is what the Church Teaches. All Catholics are bound to follow the laws of where they live unless the law is morally evil. Drug laws are not morally evil.
