Is St. Teresa Benedicta a Doctor of the Church?

My son is working on a Religion project. Everyone in his class was assigned a Doctor of the Church to research and write a report on (including a poster, this is 7th grade).

He was assigned St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein)

His teacher insists she is a Doctor of the Church, but we cannot find any evidence indicating this. There is much speculation that she will be designated as such, but if she was, we missed the announcement and there has been an Internet blackout of the event.

Can anyone point us to any evidence that she is a Doctor of the Church?

She isn’t. There are only three woman Doctors of the Church.

no she is not and my understand is that there are only 33 doctors of the church so your sons class is going to have to repeats.

St. Teresa Benedicta was canonized fairly recently: 1997. And a year later she was proclaimed a Co-Patroness of Europe. Perhaps the teacher is confusing that proclamation with being named a Doctor of the Church?

St. Teresa of Jesus (aka of Avila) and St. Therese of the Holy Face and the Child Jesus (aka of Lisieux) are probably who the teacher is thinking about.

As the others have said, she isn’t a doctor of the Church, but her writings and life are under investigation by the Carmelite Order (since she was a Carmelite nun) for the purpose of promoting her naming as one. Perhaps you son could research and report on that.
