I recently learned that Starbucks is a major corporate contributor to Planned Parenthood, which as we all know, encourages abortion. Knowing that, what is your opinion on whether patroning Starbucks is sinful? I know how I feel, but I’m interested in other’s opinion.

Yep, buying anything from Hellbuck’s is horrid since some money goes to Planned Parenthood. Think of it as giving a loaded gun to a suicidal person. People whom support corps. that support abortion and the like are helping kill babies.

This question was brought up in another thread somewhere.

My response was to just look at the Starbuck’s trademark, or logo, or whatever that thing is. Notice what the mermaid is doing, notice the look on her face. It is a perfectly designed/evolved symbol that subconsciously excites us (without disturbing us too much at once). We have been like the proverbial frog in the heated water…until we are left with just that perfect symbol that is like an eternal masturbation: Look at the eternally unsatisfied, yet always willing face of the mermaid.

It’s the image that we moderns follow. Of course, someone could tell us all about the history of that particular image, and the story that is behind it, etc.,etc. …and that would justify everything, wouldn’t it? That’s how the world works today; everything is justified with a story. Hell itself will be justified with a story.

“For those who have eyes, let them see.”

For me it is not a question of supporting a supporter of abortion, but just plain old native common sense. Multi bucks for a cup of coffee. I mean gimme a break. These outfits ought to have their clerks wear masks. They are robbers.

I don’t think that buying a cup of coffe is sinful. Contributing to Planned Parenthood is not all they do. However, now that I know I won’t be able to do it. I really think our money talks. It is what business understands.

I believe it is if you know that “they” support Planned Parenthood. Then I think as an above poster stated that you are in essence also supporting P.P. I also believe they were too expensive anyway, I have had three cups of coffee from there in my life, two, others bought for me and one I bought myself, I will no longer buy any from them, if, after doing a bit of research myself, it turns out to be true. Plus, I will encourage other’s not to do so if my research turns that up. One other thing, I will write to them to let them know why, I am sure they aren’t going to miss my business much anyway, but they sure will miss the business of a lot of other’s that I know.

Starbucks promotes homosexual agenda with coffee cup
Aug 12, 2005

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–After nearly a decade of lying low, Starbucks has reentered the homosexual rights movement in a few ways that have put at least one conservative watchdog group on alert.

**A Habit Easily Broken: I Stepped Away from My Latte to Find Out What Starbucks Really Supports.
**WorldNetDaily, Meghan Kleppinger of CWA, 8.10.2005

Not only is Starbucks sponsoring “Pride” week, but an event that places innocent children in the middle of sexually explicit materials … and registered child molesters will be there running the show? If Starbucks is doing this knowingly, it is blatant irresponsibility, and if they are doing it unknowingly, it is irresponsible of them not to have done their homework . .

What is the mermaid doing? I can’t tell.

If you know about it, then yes you should absolutely boycott. I never went anyway 'cause I never had 8 bucks to throw away on a cup of coffee, so my boycott alone won’t do much good.

However, if you spread the word, you might do some good. Nestle used to support planned murderous parenthood and enough people boycotted that they stopped. It’s been shown to work!

Anyone who does is welcome to free coffee at my house! 😃 :coffee:

This is not as simple as it seems.

There is good evidence that abortion follows contraception: Widespread use of contraceptives generates a “contraceptive ethos” in society, pursuant to which almost the entire sexually-active population believes that it is entitled to sexual pleasure artificially disengaged from the naturally-attached risk of conception. That ethos has a life of its own, and a kind of momentum. It tends to result in severe disappointment and frustration if anyone not intending to conceive, conceives. “WHAT HAPPENED TO MY SHARE OF THE THE RISK-FREE NOOKIE?!?!?!” people in such a society complain in their hearts.

So, after The Pill popularized contraception and generated the contraceptive ethos, demand for abortions boomed enormously.

Now, Church budgets across the United States have Pro-Life Accounts, to support Pro-Life activities.

B-u-u-u-u-u-t, do those budgets ever have an anti-contraception account?

To the best of my knowledge, the answer is, “Never.”

The Church really, really does soft-peddle opposition to use of contraceptives.

And the priests know that three-quarters of the sexually-active Catholics they give Communion to are using contraceptives regularly.

As an example of “soft-peddling,” in our Diocese years ago the Bishop ordered “Contraception Sunday.” Every priest in the Diocese was ordered by memo to give a homily reminding all Catholics that regular use of artificial contraceptives is “seriously sinful.”

One third of the priests disobeyed the order.

In the parishes where the order was obeyed, hundreds of parishioners stood up and walked out of Mass.

Thousands of complaining letters were written to the Diocese.

Contraception Sunday never happened again.

Soft-peddling.

Now, the problem with soft-peddling is that use of artificial contraceptives and illicit contraceptive means such as sterilization really is the main generator of the Contraceptive Ethos and the enormous demand for the right to murder one’s own offspring, by abortion.

So, while the Church “annoys” the pro-choice movement with its *overt * opposition to abortion, *the Church appears to be *intentionally ** not aiming for the heart, by intentionally not going after contraceptive use, even among Communion receiving Catholics.

So, maybe Starbucks shouldn’t be our first target.

Look to your left and your right at Mass.

Look up at the altar.

There is the beginning of the problem.

I boycot the United Way, Salvation Army and now Starbucks too. I try to keep my support away from those who support mass infanticide.

Hitler would have been proud of Planned Parenthood had he founded it. Maybe he did? Maybe his henchmen?

Well, for one thing, she doesn’t seem to be a mermaid anymore…technically…

As to what she is doing or thinking, I think that this is part of the allure: The exciting information, or story, is just out of view. And so our imaginations become mysteriously excited (subconsciously, I would guess, after all this time subjected to this type of thing) and we feel an inexplicable ‘comfortableness’, and are lulled/numbed into patronizing them.

He would have, you are right, just as Planned Parenthood’s founder, Margaret Sanger, was proud of him. She wrote very glowingly of Hitler’s work.

She put the Planned Parenthood sites in areas where the “unfit” as she put it dwelled: Blacks, Catholics, Slavs, poor people, in an effort-admittedly- so stop them from breeding.

This is from Her first handbook, published for adolescents in 1915 and entitled, What Every Boy and Girl Should Know, this is the aftorword:
It is a vicious cycle; ignorance breeds poverty and poverty breeds ignorance. There is only one cure for both, and that is to stoop breeding these things. Stop bringing to birth children whose inheritance cannot be one of health or intelligence. Stop bringing into the world children whose parents cannot provide for them.

In a 1921 article in the Birth Control Review, Sanger wrote, “The most urgent problem today is how to limit and discourage the over-fertility of the mentally and physically defective.”

Here are some really touching quotes from the Mother of planned parenthood and birth-control:

“The most merciful thing that a family does to one of its infant members is to kill it.”
Margaret Sanger, Founder of Planned Parenthood

“Birth control must lead ultimately to a cleaner race.”
Margaret Sanger, Founder of Planned Parenthood

“We should hire three or four colored ministers, preferably with social-service backgrounds, and with engaging personalities. The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through a religious appeal. We don’t want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population…”
Margaret Sanger, Founder of Planned Parenthood

“Eugenic sterilization is an urgent need … We must prevent multiplication of this bad stock.”
Margaret Sanger, Founder of Planned Parenthood

"Eugenics is … the most adequate and thorough avenue to the solution of racial, political and social problems.
Margaret Sanger, Founder of Planned Parenthood

"Birth control itself, often denounced as a violation of natural law, is nothing more or less than the facilitation of the process of weeding out the unfit, of preventing the birth of defectives or of those who will become defectives.
Margaret Sanger, Founder of Planned Parenthood

“The unbalance between the birth rate of the ‘unfit’ and the ‘fit,’ [is] the greatest present menace to civilization… the most urgent problem today is how to limit and discourage the over-fertility of the mentally and physically defective.”
Margaret Sanger, Founder of Planned Parenthood

“The campaign for birth control is not merely of eugenic value, but is practically identical with the final aims of eugenics.”
Margaret Sanger, Founder of Planned Parenthood

“Our failure to segregate morons who are increasing and multiplying… a dead weight of human waste… an ever-increasing, unceasingly spawning class of human beings who never should have been born at all.”
Margaret Sanger, Founder of Planned Parenthood

“The undeniably feeble-minded should, indeed, not only be discouraged but prevented from propagating their kind.”
Margaret Sanger, Founder of Planned Parenthood

“The procreation of [the diseased, the feeble-minded and paupers] should be stopped.”
Margaret Sanger, Founder of Planned Parenthood

“The marriage bed is the most degenerative influence in the social order…”
Margaret Sanger, Founder of Planned Parenthood

“[Our objective is] unlimited sexual gratification without the burden of unwanted children…”
Margaret Sanger, Founder of Planned Parenthood

“[Mandatory] sterilization for [the insane and feeble-minded] is the answer.”
Margaret Sanger, Founder of Planned Parenthood

“Give dysgenic groups [people with ‘bad genes’] in our population their choice of segregation or [compulsory] sterilization.”
Margaret Sanger, Founder of Planned Parenthood

This is a war people. A culture war. Get your armor on and fight.

Thanks for taking the time to comment on “The Way I See It.” This is a new program where we invite outside contributors to write something for the back of our to-go cups.

Because the goal of “The Way I See It” is to encourage discussion and exchange ideas, your contribution to this dialogue is not only welcome - it’s vital. Whether you agree or disagree with what’s been said, we hope you appreciate the overall spirit of the program, which again is to encourage discussion and the exchange of ideas.

Part of our mission statement is to “embrace diversity as an essential component in the way we do business.” We believe that this program is one of the ways that we can express this part of our mission statement. While Starbucks does not necessarily endorse the viewpoints of the individual authors who appear in “The Way I See It,” we think their contributions to the marketplace of ideas is a way to respectfully encourage intellectual diversity.

If you have any additional comments or questions please let us know.

Sincerely,

Kristin

That was the response I got when I e-mailed them to voice my concern about Planned Parenthood and their gay pride messages they put on their cups…which is another beef I have with them. I’m sure Kristin would be happy to get your e-mail at info@starbucks.com.

Who knew that a coffee shop’s mission was to encourage intellectual diversity?

Hey, thanks for the address (info@starbucks.com). I sent an email right away explaining that while they continued this offensive behavior, I would keep all my family and friends from going.

God help them! 😦

D’oh! Why didn’t I know about this before?! Well, at least it will save me money now. Besides, there are plenty of other places to get an iced cappuccino. And the Salvation Army does this too? And the United Way? I didn’t know about all that.

So what about when we have to spend nights in a hotel, and they offer PPV pornographic movies. Even though we’re not watching them, should we not go to the hotel? Serious question, because I’ve not been to a hotel that did not have that garbage.

IMHO you’re okay staying there because at least they give you the option to block the offensive material. I used to have to go to Vegas for business and many of the hotels there have taken to puting condoms in the honor bar as an item you can purchase along with your $5 can of Coke. 😦

What major hotel chains have a policy of not providing their guests with access to pornographic movies?

I don’t believe that buying from Starbucks is sinful. But then again I don’t believe that abortion is the ONLY worthy cause in the world.
