If I understand this correctly,if you leave the Catholic Church and join a Protestant that are committing a mortal sin. Is that right? Please give me your thoughts on this particular matter.
For it is through Christ’s Catholic Church alone, which is the universal help toward salvation, that the fullness of the means of salvation can be obtained. It was to the apostolic college alone, of which Peter is the head, that we believe that our Lord entrusted all the blessings of the New Covenant, in order to establish on earth the one Body of Christ into which all those should be fully incorporated who belong in any way to the People of God
A mortal sin is when in a grave matter we knowingly and freely make the wrong choice. Catholics believe that the fullness of truth and salvation is found within the Catholic Church. To knowingly and freely reject that would indeed be a mortal sin.
However, the culpability of the individual is something that only that individual and God knows. Is he leaving simply because he just doesn’t want to accept some hard teachings, i.e. looking for a church that suits him rather than forming himself to the truth? Or is he sincerely convinced that he’s making a decision based on truth as he understands it?
