Is the Bible still relevant?

Our priest, and those on EWTN, have on numerous occasions made the comment that the Ten Commandments are not the ‘Ten Suggestions’. First, let me say that I firmly believe that God’s word is timeless, as applicable today as it was yesterday, and will be for all tomorrows to come. My question more accurately should be: Do you think that many feel the Bible and its teachings are obsolete, irrelevant for the times we find ourselves in now? Is that why we are finding new and creative ‘translations’ of the Bible? Is that how some of our ‘moral’ choices are justified? Just a thought. I thank you for yours.

Containing the “inspired word of GOD” prevents the Bible from ever becoming outdated. Each successive generation will either accept or reject the word of GOD, with an increasing number rejecting it with each passing generation. The advent of the 2nd coming will find the world deep in sin and hate and with the physical attacks and torture of Christians, so therefore, with each generation, the rejection of GOD’s inspired word will incrementally increase.

That being said, no, the choice you see people making today is not because the Bible is outdated, it is because satan owns the world and he is moving to capture as many souls as he can and destroy the world in the process.

It’s up to you to chose to believe GOD’s word and 10 commandments or the talking heads, rock stars, political leadership and continue to move away from GOD and embrace the very short lived material satisfaction of the world.

Think about it, it is an eternal decision.

Sacred Scripture is more relevant than ever today!

Those honestly seeking the Truth in today’s world of relativism & self serving selfishness, can only find Jesus, who is the Fullness of all Truth in Sacred Scripture & in His One, Holy, Catholic & Apostolic Church.**

One of the most powerfully applicable examples from the Bible that I am familiar with is the short story of the Tower of Babel.

By my interpretation, this story is a thorough rejection of urban, cosmopolitanism. And utopia building.
In building their utopia, the nations attempted to transcend theology, but in doing so ended in catastrophe and brought themselves low. Reducing themselves to chaos.

Now compare this short, unassuming story in Genesis to the catastrophes of men attempting to, metaphorically, ‘storm heaven’ in the 20th century.

This is only one brief story likely recorded by someone wearing an animal skin, a mouth full of yellow teeth (if he had any, at all) and who by modern standards would smell absolutely terrible.
Another powerful message is contained in the first chapters of Genesis. [Exegesis based on Fr. Barron’s sermon and the writings of the Patriarchs] The Lord tells the first humans, “Eat of any tree you’d like, save this one–the difference between good and evil.”

Meaning that all the fields of human exertion (art, science, &c.) were open to the command and manipulation of mankind–except, the ability to legislate what good and evil are. That one, the Lord reserves for himself.

With this interpretation in mind, look at the success of various ideologies/movements in their attempts to redefine morality.

Presto!: You’ve got yourself two examples of how the Bible is still relevant.

Yes, many people do feel that the Bible and its teachings are obsolete and irrelevant for the modern age. We need to prove them wrong but that might be a difficult task. And no, I don’t think that is why we are finding new translations of the Bible. I think we are getting new translations of the Bible because older manuscripts are being found and translators are getting better at translating. I think that some people might think that their immoral choices are justified by the fact that they think that the Bible is obsolete and irrelevant for modern times.

Yes, many feel that God is something of the past and so is His Word. and this makes me remember what Jesus said: “in the end when I come, will I find any Faith.” another is," towards the end the faith of many will grow cold."

Jesus knew that this was going to happen.
