I was talking to a Protestant the other day and he was telling me the capital of hell is called Pandæmonium. I recently read Paradise Lost and it is called that in this as well. This is how the discussion actually began.
Is this true? Is it a city?
I’ve heard this name before many times in popular culture.

No. Or, maybe? I guess it might be and we just don’t know? Paradise Lost is a fictional story from the mind of Milton, nothing more.

People liked to use The Divine Comedy and Paradise Lost as if they’re fact-pamphlets.

The answer is probably no. It is highly unlikely that there is a city in Hell. Creative aspects are purely the work of God, all demons can do is destroy. They couldn’t work together long enough to create a city, nor could it persist even if they managed it.

That’s what I thought.
And I actually said to him, it isn’t called that anywhere in scripture.( He’s normally all into sola scriptura). His response was, “It’s just common knowledge.”

The Pantheon started off as a temple dedicated to all the Roman gods. It was consecrated as a church in 7th century.

John Milton coined the word in 1667 for “Paradise Lost.” The Oxford English Dictionary cites that as the word’s first appearance in written English.

Wouldn’t demons know how to create assuming they didn’t fall before God created the universe?

I think that the making of one part of a region its primacy is more a human oriented activity.

I look at Heaven and imagine a seat where God sits, with Jesus and the Holy Spirit. His light shines through the entirety of Heaven and would not be diminished anywhere there.

They would understand the mechanisms of creation, but I don’t believe they would have the capacity to create. Sort of like how someone can know every letter of the alphabet but be incapable of writing a cohesive story.

Pandemonium comes from Milton’s PARADISE LOST. It means “place of all demons.”

It is unlikely there are any cities in Hell. First, because a city is an aggregation of beings with bodies, e.g. human beings. Hell was created, says Jesus, for “the devil and his angels,” who have no bodies.

Second, because a city requires a certain level of unity of mind, which would not exist in Hell.

The same sort of place where the Rapture is common knowledge… 😉

Both “Paradise Lost” and Dante’s “Inferno” are works of fiction.

Hell is not a country that has capitals.

unless you are using it as a proper noun then the only capital it has is ‘H’ 😁
