Hi everyone! Is the Charismatic Catholic Church (sm) a Church in full communion with Rome? Do they have valid apostolic succession? I am becoming friends with an Archbishop from the Philippines and I just wanted to know. Thanks!

Also, what about the AORCC? More information is: Confraternity for the Latin Liturgy. I looked up the acronym online but couldn’t find the meaning. Thanks!

What is the name of the Archbishop? and Where is he assigned to?

Try searching for CBCP on the net…i think it stands for Catholic Bishops Conference of the Phil…they should have a list of Phil bishops. If you cannot find the answer you seek, give me the info I asked above. I have contacts there and I can have them look it up for you.

What is the “Charismatic Catholic Church (sm)”? I’ve never heard of it/them. Can you clarify? Any info on exactly what you’re referring to? Thanks.

Old Roman Catholic Church: heretical
AORCC American Old Roman Catholic Church

then theres the NAORCC for North American yada yada yada…

I dont think anyone knows what you are talking about, that may very well include you.

Of course you may very well be right. I’m not the smartest cookie in the jar sometimes after all! ;)😛 But yeah, I think that maybe this Bishop is a Charismatic Catholic so he refers to himself as Catholic Charismatic and his diocese is largely Charismatic as well so he calls it the Catholic Charismatic Church. I really don’t know. I could ask them though. 🙂

Ah okay. 🙂 But does the Old Roman Catholic Church have valid holy orders? I read that they do but don’t know for sure.

Hi Holly,

I checked the website you had about the group. It is not a church but a catholic renewal movement in the Philippines. I saw the foreword by Cardinal Vidal, who is the Abp of Cebu where their national congress was held. It is a catholic group.

I think that is what he is describing his movement or diocese. You have not answered my question? **What is his name? Have you checked the website of Catholic Bishops Conference of the Phil. They have a list of Catholic Bishops so you should be able to check. **

never heard of it

look up the archbishop on the website of the Catholic bishops of the Philippines and see if he is legit, also check their website for a Charistmatic Renewal movement endorsed by the bishops.

Think of charismatic Catholics like you would any ethnic group within the Catholic Church. They have a few unique traditions like the Italians, the Irish and so on. The Mass is still the Mass tough it appears different - just a Mass said in Polish would.

Its not. I’m not even sure if they have valid orders. They have married Bishop which is a tell-tale sign that they are not in Communion with Rome. The Catholic and Orthodox Churches have not allowed married men to become Bishops for centuries now.

I think I know of this Archbishop you speak of. I came across him on facebook. He is married, if we are talking about the same person.

Oh. There is basically a Charismatic Movement within the Church, so it is part of the Church and has been praised by Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI.

Now there is this other group called the Catholic Charismatic Church which at best is a Schismatic group. They claim Apostolic succession which I believe they received from the Old Catholics. This was the one I was talking about. If by Filipino Bishop you meant Rev. Joel Clemente, then no they are not Catholics in union with Rome.

The word ‘Bishop in the Phillipines’ has alot of bad stuff associated with it.
There are some unapproved Catholic apparitions that occurred in Europe and the U.S. that invariably have a Phillipine RCC Bishops approval for the writings or the apparition itself even though no Bishop may approve such things unless they occur in his diocese.

Holly, as to whether your Bishop friend is even a Roman Catholic remains a question as you have not supplied enough information. You question(s) are couched in ambiguity.

Is your Bishop friend assoc with the AORCC or is that a seperate question.
Originally I thought these were seperate questions because when you talk about a Bishop friend of yours I supposed he was not a heretical Bishop not formally assoc. with the Catholic Church.

Anything ‘Old Roman Catholic’ is heretical, many of these ORC orgs even elect their own pope. Apostolic Succession as defined within our Church has at least two elements, 1) line of succession and 2) intent.

You can have 1) line of succession but if you intent deviates from the RCC than you have lost it. The Anglican Church claims Apostolic Succession but the RCC denies it for #2.

I’m winging it here, so what I write can probably be corrected in a more formal way.

I’m curious which one you are referring to.

I have no names. I live in the U.S., so of course, the generality was remembered but not the particulars. I am extensively well read on all the major approved and unapproved apparitions. Two or more of these unapproved apparitions frequently have the followers/website citing some Phillipine Bishop approval. The Phillipine Bishop going outside of his diocese to either approve an apparition and/or the derivative writings arising from such with an Imprimatur or Nihil Obstat. All very intrusive and illicit.

Which apparitions I mean.
