after reading posts on different threads I get the impression many Non-Catholics view the Latin Rite of the Catholic Church as a cult. why is this so?
One of my Sister-in-laws says i’m in an cult religion from the first time she met me.

At first I was kind of perterd that she called the Catholic religion a cult. Over time I have forgiven her and treat her with kindness anyway. Guess what, it worked. She knows I been sincere and true to the heart. 🙂

I have been called every name in the book, trying to defend my religion. Oh well. 🙂

Backfrmthebrink,

I maybe wrong but I thought that one of the reasons for priests not being able to marry was because at their time of death their heirs would get their property and not the church. I have a very hard time with celibacy being a requirement for the priesthood. Wasn’t Peter married?

God Bless!
If Peter were married, i’m not sure…

The bible states that All 12 disciples left their homes, jobs, left their wives etc. and followed Jesus which I gather that means… they became celibate. Even if he were married, he gave up everything to follow Jesus. That’s how I perceive it. I may be wrong too 🙂

ok elvisman: I’ll bite. FACT: The cath church IS one of the largest land owners in the world
FACT: At one time operated the largest distillery Christian brothers still run by monks
backfrmthebrink;3914465:
Fact the assention of Mary
The Ever virgin status of Mary
The title of Mary as the gatekeeper
The claim as Peter as the first Pope
The now commonly understoof mistranslation of Peter being the Rock the church was built on
Water regenerationalists
I’m not quite sure where you’re going with the distillery thing, but it wasn’t run by the Church.

The Ever virgin status of Mary - Show me where Scripture speaks of her children - other than Jesus.

Water regenerationalists - Ezek. 36:25-27, 1 Peter 3:20-21, John 3:3-5, Acts 22:16, Titus 3:5-6

Peter the Rock/Peter as the first Pope - Matt. 16:17-19,
(Ignatius of Antioch - Epistle to the Romans 3:1 [A.D. 110]).
(Clement of Rome - Letter to the Corinthians 58:2, 59:1[A.D. 95]).
(Tertullian - *Modesty *21:9-10 [A.D. 220]).
**(*Letter of Clement ***to James 2 [A.D, 221]).
(Cyprian of Carthage - Epistle to Cornelius [Bishop of Rome] 59:14 [A.D. 252]). And a WHOLE lot more frome the Early Fathers.

Assention of Mary - Mary was “Assumed” into heaven by God - like Enoch and Elijah. Jesus “Ascended” by his owm power".
Purgatoiry
Purchasing of souls with money
More and more
Purgatory - 2 Macc. 12:43–45, Matt. 12:32, 1 Cor 3:15, Rev. 21:27.

Purchasing of Souls?? - Provide proof that the Catholic Church EVER endorsed this.
As a sovergien nation they are as well as business with many business to their credit and control. The forbidding of Priests to marry because in part the divorce could legally call into question the assets of the CC
Now that I took the bait Let me ask you this. For fun if any of you can play along. IF you DID agree with the fact that the CC was a deceptive entity would you then believe it to be a cult? I am just asking. Please I really don’t want hostility nor do I want to create antagnosim. A respectful non personal give and take please. Again if not I cannot participate. Not because as elvis (thought you were dead) stated that I have nothing to back it up with but because hostility goes nowhere fast. I got caught up in that in other threads and have to apologize to anyone who participated in that with me as I could have handled all that differently
The Vatican operates on a budget about the size of the City of Chicago. Not much proof for the Church being as rich as you claim. That burden of proof is on YOU, my friend.

As for hostility - I showed you none. I just asked you to back it up with facts - which you still haven’t. You see - opinions and facts are 2 very different things.

Happy hunting! 👍

Amen, I suspect you may be better versed in that than I am. I have a hard time with that as well and the Priests I know and talk with also do. Seems like a fire in the flesh that cannot be culled

The Communion of Saints, for one. (Apostles Creed)

Most Protestants also reject "One Baptism for the forgiveness of sins". (Nicene Creed)

Whereas you guys have thousands, we believe in,One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church” (Nicene Creed)
We do believe in the communion of saints. We simply say it has nothing to do with praying to and for the dead.

We do believe in one holy, catholic, and apostolic church. We don’t believe in thousands of churches. We simply say that it isn’t the Roman Catholic Church hierarchy.

I can’t vouch for those who don’t believe baptism remits sin.

That is actually a popularly held misconception. If you look at it from the whole approach to history, had they married, they would have married within their station, in other words, other clerical families. The Church would have had no issue holding lands. Besides, the land is never in the priest’s name, anyway.

The reality of clerical celibacy is based on Jesus and Paul’s teachings.

The married Episcopal Priest that have become married Roman Catholic Priest do not have to be celibate–correct?

Peace!

Well, there’s the proof that are not, in fact part of Jesus’ Church.
You can’t speak for those who don’t believe in baptismal regeneration because there are so many differing beliefs within Protestantism.
I’m not saying that you’re not a Christian - I’m saying that you are a Christian who is sef-separated from the ONE Church established by our Lord.

Mat 1:25. Joseph honored Mary and had no relations with her until after the birth of Christ. Then if you go to Mat 13:55 and Mark 6:34 you will hear of Jesus’s brothers. The greek here suggest of a relation not a friend.

Nothiing of what you listed has anything, absolutly nothing to do with a place called purgatory. Hell and the testing of works which is not the burning or the testing of ourselves btw, Finish reading it it is a beautiful text and connects to John 15
You have not offered and Biblical proof either for the asssessention into heaven of Mary who was not a virgin, Do you know why? because it is not there.
Luther left the CC because of the incident involving the purchasing of souls from Purgatory, and event that cannot happen from a place that does not exist. That was what motivated him to nail his decree to the door.
You asked for facts I have offered you impirical facts, data and evidence to prove my statements but you, on the other hand have offered no such thing. BTW read an old bottle and box of Christian brothers brandy and you will see that monks did and still do run that distillery. It was also a big court battle with the US government over not paying taxes. I am sure you can find that as well.
I stand by my comments firmly.

Take your hands off your hips, Elvis…

Please don’t call me an anti-Catholic, because you are looking very ignorant.

The celibacy of priest comes from the teachings of Paul. It is a practice of the church, which gives its leaders (priest) the best opportunity to serve God just as Paul describes.

again I ask, if anyone can pretend to agree with my statement regarding the church, would you then see it as a cult or not. If you can’t do that with the cc then what about JW, Mormons or CS

Hi Back,

Answer to your question: No :nope:

I stand my comment firmly too. 😃

Don’t sue me you invited me here so I cut it and pasted it. I do have experience working with cults.
Actually I did do my research on this particular cult I was working with and it was sometime ago. However to answer your leading question, Yes it is. I am sure that is going to raise a ton of responses but I will say for now I will not reply to any of them. The CC is complicated in that it is so accepted in our communitiesone of the largest business around. largest land owner and at one time the largest distillery.
The first rule in establishing a cult is to alter the Word of God the next to either discredit it or to make their writingsa equal to it as such allowing to add or change the message. Oncew that happens there is trremendous control and almost a complete inability to argue with reason. The area where it does not fit in type as you would usually find is that it does not prohibit its members of protein, essential for cognitive functioning. It will however establish a head and one that can claim exclusicve authority and therby power.
I know I am in trouble. but don’t worry you are in good company with Jehovah Witnesswes, Mormanism and Christian Science to name a few community accepted cults. Ok there. I can hear the guns clicking.
It sounds to me like your gun is empty. As you are not willing to defend your position, I can only think you are posting it for the entertainment value you will receive by making people angry.

Not angry here, but very very amused at YOUR faulty logic!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

If indeed it was a deceptive entity, then yes I’d believe it to be a cult and I’d leave it faster than you can say Amen. However, I do not believe it is.

What kind of post is this? I offered you the assessment of what a cult is. I stated that In my opinion the CC fits this what is illogical and as you can see I have defended my position as I got roped into it. I am so easy.😦
