Is the Catholic Church possible?

Thank you. I haven’t, but I shall.
I also recommend the Encyclical Casti Connubii, which came out in direct response to the Lambeth Confrence’s seismic shift in 1930. The book The Bible and Birth Control by Charles Provan is excellent-- as he is a Protestant. This recent article in a Protestan magazine is also interesting.

Also, the encyclical Dominus Jesus, which is not about contraception but your other ideas on the Church not being the One True Church.

I wish people would stop acting as if contraception is a new issue. The Church has dealt with this issue since the earliest times, and its answer has always been the same: contraception is gravely disordered. It said it about Silphium in ancient Rome (an abortifacient that went extinct during Nero’s reign) and it has consistently opposed contraceptives and abortifacients since its inception.

People act as if there was some medical breakthrough in the twentieth century that the Church has simply failed to keep up to date with, but the ancients had access to easy contraceptives as well, and the Church opposed those as well.

The only thing that has changed in the twentieth century is the cavalier attitude the world has toward sex.

I wouldn’t even say *that *is a change from early times.

Nothing new under the sun, as they say.

Not so much a change, as a return to the practices of the pagan Roman empire during the early Christian years. It’s as if the Emperor Julian is finally getting his revenge.

As to contraception, it’s as though the modern world, since 1930, is saying, not just to the Catholic Church, but to pre-1930 Protestantism as well, “all you guys have been wrong for centuries. Only now in the later years of the 20th century, have we finally got it right.” Some chutzpah there.

I am currently not a practicing Catholic, having been participating at an Anglican church for a time.
Hi
Why do you not work for merging of the Catholics with Anglicans or vice versa, for one United Christendom? It would be easier for you as you have been in the both.
Thanks

This is God’s job; not mine.

I also recommend Theology of the Body by Pope John Paul II, and buy seminar talks by Christopher West. He does a great presentation of the Theology of the Body.
I have read/listened to (and thoroughly enjoyed) both.
