Is the Catholic Church that celebrates the Roman rite originally called the Latin Church?

Is the Roman Rite Church originally called the Latin Catholic Church? I ask this because no where in the Holy Sees documents, catechism, or even the Code of canon law call the Roman Rite Church the Roman Catholic Church, but the Latin Church referring to the Church in the west. Plus the term Roman Catholic was not in use until the 16 century after the Protestant reformation, which was a term to insult Catholics in communion with Rome.

If my momery is right, the term ‘Roman Rite’ (‘Roman Catholic’) has been/is used for the Latin (Westerm Rite) Catholic Church because of slight differents used from place to place in the west, the Mass in Rome was used as a stamderd for the west. 🙂
There are some who take the term Roman Catholic as insulting (not me). 👍
 
As I recall Roman Church was originally a disparaging term by the Anglicans. However, it has crept into common usage. It has never been used in official documents.

There are plenty of Vatican documents that calls the Roman Church as “Roman Church”. Especially if you are reading documents that talks about the different Churches.

Latins and Greeks have been a term long used, although I don’t know how formal those terms were.
 
There are 22 Churches and six “liturgical traditions.”

The term “Roman Catholic Church” is generally used to refer to the entire Catholic Church, all 22 Churches, West and East.

The “Latin Church” is one of these 22, the largest, and the only Western Church. The Latin Church’s liturgical tradition is called the “Latin liturgical tradition.” The principal Rite of the Latin liturgical tradition, and the most common and widespread in the entire Roman Catholic Church, is the Roman Rite, of which there are two Forms.

That is not correct.

“The Catholic Church” is used to refer to all 22 Churches together.
 
Actually the Catholic Church is made of 23 Churches including Rome 🙂
 
I would have to come to the Conclusion that the " Latin Church " is the official name for the Church of the West because it is called the Latin Rite in the Catechism, the Councils, early writings etc.
 
What is the Pope’s title as head of the western Church? I would think the title of the leader would include the correct “name” of a particular Church.

Although he has had the title removed from following his name in 2006, it was “Patriarch of the West”. Now he is just “bishop of Rome, vicar of Jesus Christ, successor of the prince of the apostles, supreme pontiff of the universal church, primate of Italy, archbishop and metropolitan of the province of Rome, sovereign of Vatican City State and servant of the servants of God”
 
In the Early Catholic Church there was the Church of Jersulem, Church of Constantiople, Church of Ansioch, and there was the Church of Alanderia and the Church of Rome. The Church of The West is officially and always has been called the Roman Church. The Anglicans misused the term and would use the term Roman Catholic to divide themselves from Roman Rite Catholics in communion with Rome, because they themselves believed to be Catholics. When they used the Term Roman Catholic as a insult, Roman Rite Catholics realized and said " Hey we are Roman Rite Catholics, so we are Roman Catholic!" That’s why its no longer insulting, atleast to Catholics of the Roman Rite 🙂

In formal Church documents, Roman Church typically refers to the Holy See - I.e. the Diocese of Rome itself as the particular church that holds primacy under the guidance of the Bishop of Rome. The Latin Church refers to the 2000+ particular local churches (dioceses and equivalent) that form the Western Church sui iuris which primarily uses the Roman Rite in its worship.
