Christ gave us the Catholic Church. Why would we ever go looking for another?

Yes, of course, or I would not be Catholic.
That said; I do believe that only God reads hearts and minds and only He is the determinater (is that a word?!) of who is and is not “saved”, regardless of professed belief.

I have heard many opinions on this and would like to hear what people say on the issue.

AND

Is the official Church teaching that All religions have value and that God can be found in them?

Is so, then why practice Catholicism?
Palmas 85,

I guess the next poll is going to be titled “Does 2 + 2 = 4 ?” Actually, I guess the issue is not quite a clear-cut as that since we do have non-Catholic posters here. But the answers should fall out pretty much along church lines.

I think the Church does officially teach that God can be found in other religions and that they all contain some measure of the truth. But even so, if you know that the Catholic Church contains the full measure of truth and stay out of it, God will hold you accountable for that. Certainly all religions have value, but the Catholic Church has a lot more value than all the others.

Catholicism is the one True Church founded by Christ. All salvation comes through the Church. All religions have a degree of the truth though. Muslims have some truth in their faith. Bhuddists have some truth in their faith. Baptists have more truth. The fullness of this truth is only found in the Catholic Church though.

I would say that many religions have some value to them, but the only one that shows the Truth in its entirety is the Catholic Church. You might find some aspect of God in some other faith, but I would not say that God works through different religions. All Grace is recieved in truth. A protestant will only recieve as much Grace as he is conformed to the truth. God will continue to bestow grace on all His people, but by conforming to the truth which is only found in the Catholic Church, we can recieve the fullness of God’s Grace.

Of course, no other religion was started by God himself. Sure they believe in Christ, but they were all started by men, not Jesus himself.

The Catholic Church is the One True Apostolic Church. I believe it. I do 🙂

There are also many many gifted holy Protestants and other faiths that will go to Heaven. 🙂

I believe it’s the church that Christ established, and I believe it’s the most accurate, best church. Which is why I plan on joining it. 😃 But I believe that people of almost all Christian denominations can be saved.

Because men have reason, and their are certain values that human reason can find.

True, but this is a mystery, as they will go through Christ’s Body to get there - how that is, who knows, but we know that the Catholic Church is the Mystical Body of Christ! 🙂

i don’t think the poll answers are very clear, nor diverse enough. maybe somethin like
“yes it is”
“all established in christ work”
“outside religions are correct too”
“the oversoul saves all” (lol or somethin crazy like that)

Is there an existing forum thread on “Feeneyism”? If not, someone should start one… assuming it doesn’t get shut down!

Yes the Catholic Church is the One True Church.

Anyone “outside” of it who is saved, is saved because they do belong to the Church without knowing it.

Other “churches” and religions contain truths. They also contain errors. The Catholic Church contains no errors, and contains all the truths the other religions contain, and more. There’s no truth in any other religion that cannot be found in Catholicism, but plenty of errors in them.

Triumpha.

All salvation flows to the Cathoic Church, in the Catholic Church, to the Catholic Church.

(From The Christian Faith)

(804) That there is only one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church we are compelled by faith to believe and hold, and we firmly believe in her and sincerely confess her, outside of whom there is neither salvation nor remission of sins…] She represents one mystical Body; the head of this body is Christ, but the head of Christ is God. In her there is “one Lord, one faith, one baptism” (Eph 4:5)…]

This one and unique Church, therefore, has not two heads, like a monster, but one body and one head, viz., Christ and his vicar, Peter’s successor, for the Lord said to Peter personally: “Feed my sheep” (John 21:17). ‘My’ he said in general, not individually, meaning these or those; whereby it is understood that he confided all his sheep to him. If therefore Greeks or others say that they were not confided to Peter and his successors, they must necessarily confess that they are not among Christ’s sheep, for the Lord said in John: “there shall be one fold and one shephard” (John 10:16).

Dear palmas85,

In my view, there is no such thing as the true Church,
if by “true” Church is meant that one denomination
understands what Christ said and meant, in it’s fulness.

All of the Christian denominations act as correctives
to the mis-emphasis, or just plain wrong-headedness
of the others.

The true Church, then, can be seen as the truth reflected
in each:

-Catholics are right on the Mass and offering a continual
perfect sacrifice to the Father, and insisting on baptism
-Lutherans are right about clinging to Christ, and His
righteousness, in the face of our sins
-Evangelicals are right in stressing that no Church acts
as a “mediator”…that Christ, alone, is the Mediator.

Best,

Yes it is and only God Himself can give you that grace to realize that. I’ll guarantee you that when you discover that, it’ll feel like you just got a tiny understanding of Heaven! I am a big witness to this because I myself have come to realize this!

Oh, what joy! 😛

Well, except not taking Holy Communion, that’s a big bummer if you’re not confirmed yet!😦

**I think all the choices in your poll would be acceptable, except maybe for the second one since it says “no.” All faiths have value, there is no such thing as one faith being better than the other. However, the Catholic Church is the one with the most truth and the most complete worship, still it is somewhat lacking since we are limited to what we can understand and what is revealed to us from above and our worship is not fully complete until we are with God in Heaven. Salvation is attainable in other faiths as well, however salvation can not be found outside the Catholic Church. Those in other faiths can find themselves in spiritual unity with the Catholic Church, thus being capable of salvation. **

But of course. Isn’t that obvious? Read the Bible in context, read the early church fathers, pray, & have faith and have the fullness of truth revealed to you. Oh, and listen to the teaching authority on earth (the Magisterium), which we happen to have handy in the Catholic Church. Others can be saved, but that depends on their own experiences and their relationship with God. If they don’t know that the Catholic Church is the true church, they can still attain salvation. If the harden their hearts and refuse to research for themselves, then they are in spiritual danger. Let us pray for all of those that are not practicing members of the Catholic Church.

Prayers and blessings,
FdeS2
