Yes, it is the one, true Church because it was founded by Christ on Peter and the Apostles, whose successors are the pope and bishops of the Catholic Church.
Really good way of putting it. I like to tell everyone that there was the Jewish, and then Christ came and then became the Catholic Church. Nothing more need to be said.

Absolutely, the Catholicism is the one and only true religion
The Catholic Church enjoys the fullness of the truth. It is the most true church.
Anima Christi:
someone who is not actually a member of the Catholic Church could be saved, but only just barely!
Only “just barely”? Is that like being barely pregnant? 🙂

Greetings All,
The official teaching of the Catholic Church is that a measure of truth can indeed be found in other religions, but the Catholic Church contains the fullness of revealed truth. In Nostra Aetate (The Relation of the Church to Non-Christian Religions), for example, the Catholic Church says the following about Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, etc:

“The Catholic Church rejects nothing that is true and holy in these religions. She regards with sincere reverence those ways of conduct and of life, those precepts and teachings which, though differing in many aspects from the ones she holds and sets forth, nonetheless often reflect a ray of that Truth which enlightens all men. Indeed, she proclaims, and ever must proclaim Christ ‘the way, the truth, and the life’ (John 14:6), in whom men may find the fullness of religious life, in whom God has reconciled all things to Himself.” (#2)

One must keep in mind that consciously being a member the Catholic Church is the normative means of salvation. There is no salvation outside the Catholic Church, but the Church teaches that a person may belong to it unknowingly. If a person is leading a life of goodness and morality, that is God’s grace at work within him, and he must therefore be “connected” on some level. That connection is understood to be unconscious membership in the Church, if you will.

Peace,
Joel S. Peters

I think of the Catholic Church as the One MOST True Church. Greater than other Christian Churches. I believe other true Christian Church’s that accespt the Apostles Creed and Nicean Creeds will make it over the finish line. Even Calvinist confess those creeds.

If you are supposed to go through Jesus to get to Heaven, then the Catholic Church IS the one true Church.

I find this thread incredibly interesting because the other day I was discussing the anti-Christ with a friend of mine that is a nun. At one point I made the comment that I believed non-Catholics could go to heaven very easily but that I knew that Catholicism is the one true religion. At that point she said to me, “you need to be careful with that. We don’t teach that anymore.” Had someone not come in the room and interupted the conversation, I would have pursued it but I didn’t get the chance. What am I missing here? I have spent my entire 46 years knowing that and I am very confused by her statement.

Yes it is.

It must be, otherwise it is evil.

In the same way that either Christ is the Eternal God, or he is the Devil of Hell: because he claimed to be.

And, as so His church claims to be His Church, it is either what it claims to be, or it is wholly unable to make that claim, and thus evil.

I am a convert to Catholicism, I grew up in the Protestant world as a child but had fallen away from God. All the while during most of my life I always wondered why we had so many different Christian sects all claiming to know the truth, due solely on Bible interpretation. All these Churches say that the Catholics have it wrong. It would be like our country fore fathers handing over the U.S. Constitution and saying here you go! Just follow this according to you own interpretations. Could you imagine the chaos this country would be in, and we think it’s bad now. I knew deep down inside there could only be one, and I thought this as a non Christian. Three years ago after an experience, I decided to look I did not care what denomination I was to become all I wanted was the ONE true Church. I looked for clues that Jesus would have left. The Bible refers to the Church as a bride to Christ, Eph 5:23-29. It also states that “The Church”(singular) is the pillar and foundation of truth!, 1 Tim 3:15. What church is this, It the Church built on the Kapha(Aramaic for large rock) a.k.a. Peter, the language that Jesus and the Apostles spoke. “You Kapha and on this Kapha I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven”. This is the same church which put together the Apostle Creed, Nicene Creed, defined the Trinity or Tri-Unity. Protected Holy Scripture from destruction during pagan occupations in which many churches and Christians were destroyed. The Church in 382 A.D. via Pope Damasus wrote a decree listing what books should be selected for the old and new Testament Canon of 73 books. In 393 Council of Hippo it approved the listing of OT and NT canon of 73 books. And again in 397 Council of Carthage it approved the same canon of OT and NT 73 books. This Bible stood alone for 1200 years before KJV. And I would like to mention I to questioned the Popes because there were bad ones, but just think about this which one of the Apostle did not betray Christ? In the OT even King David broke most of the 10 commandments, and look at the fruit that came out of his family 1000 years later. No one Jew grabbed the bible and started his own group, because they all understood Gods plan. Don’t leave Peter because of Judas. Men are not perfect and some will go off the deep end, but we have Gods word that the Church will always be true. One church started by God, all others started by men. This is the rock that the Church stands on, with out this we are just another church. May the peace of our God be with you always.
