Is the Catholic church the original church?

Hello and Christ’s blessings to you -

I have always believed that the Catholic Church is the original church from which all other Christian denominations sprang from. I do know of the Great Schism of 1054 where the Catholic and Orthodox churches split.

I have been in a few friendly debates as to which church started first. Can you give me some factual information on how best to answer ths question when the topic arises?
