Is the CC the church of Matthew 16?

**This a question for all Christians belonging to a Protestant Church, as opposed to Christians belonging the the Catholic Church, for they all (including myself) - feel that they (I) - have the answer; prove us wrong?

I can give you the name of the person who founded each and every Protestant church, in the world today, and his name was/is not Jesus Christ.

Please give me the name of the man (or men) - that founded the Catholic Church (or the RCC, if you prefer calling it that) - and WHEN?

My faith is not superior to anyones. What are you guys talking about? Hope to get some answers. As a former Lutheran, I attempted to answer this question, but could not. Perhaps my intellect is inferior to yours (no sarcasm intended) - and you could point out my mistakes, by answering the question?

There is not a “single” author of the Catholic/Orthodox tradition…it grew over decades and centuries built upon the beliefs of the ECF’s. It grew from those traditions as espoused by the largest group of people called Christians and finally consolidated as a viable organization once this tradition aligned itself with the government and declared the “state religion”.

The founders are Papias, Tertullian, Origen (even though eventually named heretic), Augustine, Clement etc. It doesn’t have “one founder”…but many.

So…question… Where exactly is this certificate that says “Catholic Church - founded by [signed] Jesus Christ”?

Were these people “founders”? I think that would be inaccurate at best. They had people that came before them, from whom they got their information, teachings, and authority.

Who was/were the real founder(s)?

All of the various sects of the first and second centuries claimed to get their teachings directly from the apostles. The ECF’s were no different in their assertions than those they called “heretics”. Each of the various groups all claimed to have received their authority and teachings from Paul ro John or James or Peter or Apollos among others…those from Alexandria claimed it was John Mark. The ECF’s weren’t alone in claiming direct teaching and authority from the apostles.

Protestant churches don’t claim to be the Church. The equivalent of a Protestant denomination would be a Catholic “particular church” or perhaps a Catholic religious order.

I can name you the founder of the Franciscan Order. That doesn’t prove anything.

You are making false assumptions about what Protestants believe in the first place, so you are just beating the air.

And you, sir, are side-stepping the question as posted. 🙂 No one is asking about the Franciscans, you see, or what protestants think of their churches.

This may or may not “prove” anything, but it’s a very interesting question to consider.

OP, I’m sorry if I’m hijacking your thread. Before today I’ve never heard this question asked before, and I find it simply delightful! It’s food for thought for sure. I’ll be done posting alltogether shortly.

Give me the name of the man who founded Zion Lutheran Church in Orange, CA, USA. If you cannot, that PROVES that Jesus did. And thus, it and it itself alone MUST be incapable of wrong, infallible, unaccountable, exempt from norming and all must just accept with docility, as Jesus speaking, whatever it and it itself alone says.

I am being very sincere. Why not simply answer the question, instead of insulting me? :confused: It’s not a trick question. I can give you the name of the man who founded each and every PC, if you ask me; is that a trick question?
