What aspect of Church teaching makes you think that breast implants for women are ok?

Peace and God bless!

I don’t see anything wrong with it. I’m not sure what the Church says, but as long as you have the money for it, it would seem reasonable if you were confident that the procedures would be effective, and not damaging to your body.

I have never heard of a church stand directly addressing the matter. With due respect, I find the question rather amusing, because any church stand will always delve into the specifics of the matter at hand, if you know what I mean.😉

Try to think of the intentions behind such a move, and it might lead you to the right answers.

Upgrade?

Are we talking RAM or hard drive here? 😃

Sorry couldn’t resist

I think we are free to improve our bodies in many ways. However, surgery always involves some risks of damage to the body, or even death. I would suggest that any improvement must be greater than that risk.

For example breast implants. While some may justify them on the grounds that they enhance self-esteem, there have been many complications with them over the years. The question would be if the enhanced self-esteem is of sufficient value to justify the danger of severe bodily damage.

it is wrong because it proceeds from vanity and pride. We age naturally as God intended. Not by artificial means…constantly caring about how you look and act is a form of vanity and leads to sin. Breast implants not involve only vanity, but also pose a problem of lust, especially for other brothers in christ. Did the saints ask themselves as to whether they should get implants??

I honestly don’t know what the Church thinks of it. Here’s my two pence though: if you subscribe to a Catholic approach to relationships, dating, marriage etc. the size of your penis won’t really come into your considerations about anything.

Exactement. Love becomes the governing principle, and love accepts the whole person, not just specific attributes. To love one another, as God has loved us, warts and all.

Does the church forbid this kind of thing?..I dont know about vanity or pride…Like I said, I’ve always had a problem with self esteem…I hear that Im just fulfilling a pleasure of the flesh…that confuses me even more…🤷

I agree completely. Plastic surgery should only be done if one was born with birth defect, or if one recieved damage to his or her body by an accident. Many claim its alright if it has to do with self-esteem but I believe that could be fixed with some counseling and just leaving the rest to God. Also knowing that God Himself sees them beautiful and perfect in the way they are also helps!😃

In practice, plastic surgery to correct gross birth defects or accident damage is a great blessing. However, I have read that plastic surgery for minor flaws, to enhance self-esteem, etc is seldom successful. It never gives all the change that the patient wants. That is why plastic surgery is one of the specialties at the greatest risk for malpractice suits.

I think the Church has no problem with plastic surgery to correct birth defects or restoration work following burns and other accidents but to have surgery simply to change the way a person looks or enlarge private parts I think is frowned upon as that would come under the sin of vanity.

Agree. might fall under vanity.
Probably a key determinant would be if there is an inordinate amount of pride involved.
This is quite tricky, for example : dressing oneself up, putting on makeup, having one’s hair made up, having a facelift, etc…which are all not necessarily sinful but there might be limits when such acts amount to an inordinate desire rooted in pride. Surgical correction, even from a cosmetic standpoint is (I think) morally indifferent and not a sin by itself. Again I believe it would depend on the intentions.
