Is the concept of scrupulosity "ridiculous," as this one critic says?

Insofar as it’s a catechetical problem, I’d characterize it as something like “High information, low formation.”
…I’m stealing this.

I think laypeople in person can be somewhat guilty of this too. People tend to provide information, not in a comprehensive manner, but in a way aimed at fixing what they see to be the greatest problem or danger.

I know in my own background it can also get mixed with outside ideas of God, perhaps coming from a non-Catholic faith influence or from family experiences. I’m hardly the only one who had to be untaught faith as much as taught it.

One possible answer might be for the scrupulous person to tear himself away from the mirror, metaphorically speaking, and direct his concern and his love outward to his fellow man.
Implying that scrupulosity is a result of a selfish, self-centred outlook is not, in my opinion, correct. I do not believe that scrupulosity is a form of spiritual vanity where the person is obsessed with himself. I do not see that people who suffer from scrupulosity are less concerned about their fellow man than those who do not suffer from it.
