I have been to Masses recently were the priest changes the words of consecration by either eliminating some words or changing some words, for example chalice becomes cup; or “for many” becomes “for all” or the words “for you” are dropped or not all of the words are said.
I don’t know if the consecration is valid or not. I usually end up going to another Mass.
Should it matter if the priest changes the words a little bit or even drop some of the words?
I think the priest who does this is incorrect in doing so, but does it invalidate the consecration to the point where I am not really receiving holy Communion?

Dear friend,

The consecration is valid, but illicit (illegal). He manages to get the essential elements into the formula; but in his own way and not as proscribed by the Church. The Mass is not his own personal property to change as he sees fit. Liturgical law IS law and the most important law because its object is the public worship of God.
