Is the Devil Content?

St. Thomas Aquinas (1225 – 7 March 1274) answers in the Summa Theologica (I:64:3) that in general the fallen angels are sorrowful because of their envy, deprivation of happiness, and wicked will. On the contrary the blessed in Heaven enjoy perpetual happiness as Pope Benedict XII has declared (D 530).

Summa Theologica:
Now it is evident that the demons would wish many things not to be, which are, and others to be, which are not: for, out of envy, they would wish others to be damned, who are saved. Consequently, sorrow must be said to exist in them: and especially because it is of the very notion of punishment for it to be repugnant to the will. Moreover, they are deprived of happiness, which they desire naturally; and their wicked will is curbed in many respects.

Is the Devil content?..If you mean “content” as a fish is in water…then…yes…for now. The Devil is in his element.

When God looked into the vast sea of chaos (before time began) He saw a huge “sea serpent”…a formidable adversary to LIMITED order and good…Now, as that adversary is doing it’s havoc…you might say that it is in some sense naturally “content”…like a fish in water…but a creature that thrives on disorder cannot ever be said to be at Peace.

Can you explain what you mean here ? I’m quite surprised, was there actually an adversary to God before Creation ?

Before ever a thing was made God saw you and loved you. We know this because God told us this on several occasions in Scripture.

If God can look into a vast sea of possibilities and see you…BEFORE creation…then He could also recognize what He calls the “Ancient Sea Serpent” before ever a thing was made.
