Is the devil directly responsible for Jesus's death?

When I first read this post my immediate response was, “no, we are.” Sad, but true.

I agree :sad_yes:, Jesus died for ours sins. So we won’t go to hell. It was necessary for the salvation of souls. I believe He influenced the Romans and Religious Leaders to kill, beat, spit, and torture Him but as for the plan of His death it was planned by God/Jesus for our sake
 
Jesus WILLINGLY went to his death

Out of love to save us he choose to suffer and die for us

What if i chose to jump in front of a truck to push a little child out of the way ,knowing that i would get crushed by the truck, who is responsible? The driver?

I chose to jump to my death so i could save the Child.
 
The devil cannot be formally responsible for the events surrounding Jesus’ death because he did not, so far as we know, appear in bodily form to commit the deeds; for example, it was not his hands that drove the nails.

We know that the devil is at least *materially *complicit in Jesus’ death because the Scriptures tell he he entered Judas to the extent that he heavily influenced him (John 6:70; 13:27). Of course Judas always had free will.

With the other parties involved (the Romans, the Jewish authorities) it’s less clear. All evil that people do is not caused by the devil-- there are internal and external factors particular to each person in the world that make them sin, namely the flesh and the world (James 3:15).

And, yes, we all had a role to play as it was our sins that made it necessary for him to die in the first place.
 
Ultimately, yes, it was the work of Satan. Satan is the epitome of evil, and no evil occurs without him. Yes, Christ died for our sins, but it was through the temptation of Satan that the Roman soldiers nailed him to the cross. Without Satan, evil would cease.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. All Satan can do is tempt us. WE choose to succumb to those temptations, we are NOT forced to do so.

It is OUR choices to sin that required redemption, not the existence of Satan.

To blame Satan for this would be to absolve us of any responsibility for our sins. That is a heresy that the Church condemned long ago.

But that’s what I’m saying: “it was through the temptation of Satan that the Roman soldiers nailed him to the cross.”
 
Wrong again, and you display a horrible lack of knowledge of what the Church teaches (and the Orthodox and almost all “Protestant” churches would agree with).

The Romans that nailed Jesus to the cross were not in any way following the 'temptation of Satan". Had they done that, they would NEVER have executed him. Instead, they would have let him walk away, so that sins could never be forgiven.

They were following the will of God, not that of Satan. Satan did not want Jesus to die on the cross. He would have prevented this from happening, if it were in his power to do so. Why on earth would Satan want to see redemption of sins?

I simply can not understand how ANY Christian could possibly hold such a belief. It totally, and completely, eradicates any form of redemption, any form of willing sacrifice from the choices and actions made by Jesus.
 
Hi there, Speaking of death prediction, I find it really odd that one of the on-line death prediction services showed me the same death date that I was foretold in my dream about a year ago. yourdeathdate.info - I can’t explain this coincidence in any other way except that there must be some kind of magic involved here.

NO and here is why,

Sin is the reason [but not the cause] of the Redemptive Death of Christ. BUT sin all though much desired by Satan and certanly a eager participate can’t CAUSE sin. Sin is ALWAYS a freewill choice that We; you and me make for ourselves.

Further God could have chosen som other way to Redeem us. This was a FREEWILL decision by God, of God and for God as is the Euchrist.🙂

This is an interesting question. I’m going to throw in with Robert Sock.
I say “yes” he is responsible for the death of Jesus and all other evil on this planet.
