Is the Eastern Orthodox Church the original Christian Church?

Eastern Orthodox Christians believe that the Orthodox Church is
the authentic and original Christian Church established by Jesus Christ and his Apostles. The Roman Catholic Church split from this church is 1054. I thought the Roman Catholic was the original Catholic Church. Why the split in 1054? Does the Orthodox Church view the Pope as its leader?
