“particularly in light of the administration’s false claims about prewar Iraq, disclosures about Bolton’s manipulation and exaggeration of intelligence data relating to Iran and Cuba, for example; and his peculiar interest in highly classified transcripts of electronic intercepts concerning colleagues in whom he apparently lacked confidence, appear to have planted serious doubts with some Republican senators about his personal and professional integrity.”

I think he is toast.

I have no idea if that is a good thing or not. The stuff in the media is pretty damning but then the stuff in the media was put there by people playing politics. The administration supports him and that is who is going to have to live with him. I doubt we will ever know the true story.

I would tend to side with Colin Powell’s judgement on this matter to the exclusion of virtually anyone else, especially GWB & Mr. Cheney.

While I would prefer for us to withdraw from the UN, I feel that if we remain a member, we should send an ambassador who know diplomacy and tact; a stateman rather than a pit bull.

I hope the nomination is withdrawn or voted down.

The UN is corrupt, that is very obvious from all the scandals today. When you have a company that is corrupt, hire a pit bull to clean it up. Maybe it is time for a pit bull. I don’t know the guy. I do know Colin Powell was made a fool of by the UN so he might not be the best person to take advice from about who is needed at the UN.

Gilliam,

The U.N. is so corrupt. I suppose their lack of support for the war in Iraq leads you to this conclusion? In any event, at least they didn’t fall for the Bush sale of the war that you and many others fell for.

The UN is ineffective AND corrupt, with the oil for food scandal being the latest and most publicized evidence of their internal corruption. In addition, they seem to be anti-US on almost every issue without even considering the Iraq war. What little they have done to stop the killing in Africa has been rife with corruption while their “watchdogs” condemn us for every perceived violation of human rights they can dig up. Please don’t let your anti-Bush attitude blind you to what is going on in the world outside of the US and Iraq.
