In a recent conversation with my friend who is converting to the Catholic faith, he expressed his concern regarding the words to the prayer, “Hail Holy Queen.” Although he now understands what the Catholic Church teaches with respect to Our Blessed Mother, he still has an intense reaction to the first few lines of the prayer. He struggles with the words “our Life, our Sweetness, and our Hope” in reference to Mary. He insists that these words should refer only to Christ; otherwise it would be blasphemy. Please help me to continue to dialogue with him regarding this prayer.
