MGRFIN,

BTW, I don’t see where Anthony ever recanted.
You attributed this to me:

quote:

Ginger posted a link to a post by anthony earlier. Take a look at that one

Unquote.

I never said that.

And, I can’t find this link to any Anthony. Do you have it, please.

peace

MGRFIN,

Okay, let me lay this out for you.

Ginger,

There you go again! Your clique of ‘Catholic’ friends who make all these preposterous anti-Catholic statements - Frankly, I don’t believe them. You have to find another group of “Catholic” friends.

Catholics don’t believe that the Bible is made up of ‘dead words’. The Bible is the living Word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit, and given to the Catholic Church as part of the Divine Deposit of Revelation.

And who are these ‘unsaved’? Didn’t Jesus come to save everyone? Jew and Gentile alike. Maybe we Catholics are the unsaved? What with our Tradition, and our Bible, and our Sinless Virgin Mary, and our Infallibility?

Please stop quoting this preposterous group on this site with their anti-Catholic ‘sayings’. Catholics don’t say the things you accuse us of. This is the third time I have read things that your ‘Catholic’ clique has said which are really unbelievable.

Thanks, Ginger.

Don’t you have anything better to do than bother me? Here’s a link:

Our friend anthony sez (as referenced by Ginger’s link:
Yes,they received the spoken word first, the apostolic tradition, and then they searched the scriptures to find the things which matched and verified what they had been told by word of mouth. The scriptures are composed of the Word of God written in dead words on the page, whereas the spoken Word is living and is passed on through tradition. The dead words of scripture need to be read in light of the living tradition of the Word.
Notice that ginger said that she “…heard Catholics say the Bible is a book of dead words.” and this is exactly what our friend anthony did.

I’m not interested in digging up all the other quotes that are identical to anthony’s but this comes up often in discuccsion on the scriptures.

While you may disagree with anthony, ginger was spot on.

Ginger was spot on, you just can’t admit it.

Some? In Aristotelian logic, ‘some’ means “one to all”.

There are 1 billion Catholics in the world. I am sure there is at least one who believe that. But I am sure that there are as many Protestants would say the same thing.

The Catholic Church teaches that the Scriptures are the inspired Living Word of God.

The statement quoted is poorly stated, and you and Ginger took it out of context. God forbid that the mission shouldn’t go on.

This matter is off-topic. This is an unproductive discussion. Let’s move on, unless of course you insist on the last word.

Your partial to Ginger. It is off-topic. Let’s move on, unless of course you insist on the last word.

I would just like for you to admit that Ginger was right. As far as being partial to Ginger I prefer Mary-Anne.

Yeah soo…back on topic.

the ACTUAL position of the Church does NOT believe scripture to be dead… so regardless of whatever the opinion of a single catholic may be it is not necessarily the opinion of Catholicism (which in this case, proves to be true)

So, mgrfin,

Is The Holy Bible “scriptural”?

And exactly, how do you define what “Scripture” is?

My definition is contained in “Dei Verbum”: “Sacred Scripture is the speech of God as put down in writing under the breath of the Holy Spirit”.

How do you define it?

Webster’s Dictionary defines “Scriptural” in two ways:
  1. Of or pertaining to sacred writings, esp. the Scriptures;
  2. rendered in or related to writing.

So Ginger was right, some catholics believe the scripture to be made of dead words?
Personaly I think that the Bible, if taken literaly have many dead words in it. But again I’m just a seeker.

But, you’re not a Catholic. You are a lapsed Catholic, like Ginger.

Your’s is not the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church. We pray for your happy return.
