You seem to limit your definition of “word of God” to the written Scriptures.
The Bible is the only book where God’s true word is revealed.
all else is an interpretation which is subject to error
Every Sunday we hear four Scripture readings: Two from the OT: a lesson and a Psalm, and two from the NT, an Epistle or other reading and a Gospel selection. The OT anGospel readings are always thematically linked
.
Apparently Catholic church changed… When I grew up, there were 2 new testament readings and a Gospel reading.
I am flabbergasted. Not only am I “aware” I teach this stuff to kids in CCD!
I am glad to hear, I am a teacher too. Kids are the best to teach
Keep asking. But you seem to think you have the answer.
He actually gave the teaching job to the men He trusted. Do we also “go directly to Him?” Of course. But we go with the assurance that He will never teach us anything that contradicts the teaching He entrusted to His Apostles.
Interesting you phrased it like that,
If God directly tells you something that goes against the Apostles teachings, you probably misunderstod what God was saying to you instead of assuming the Apostles are the ones who misunderstood, correct??
well we got off track to the subject… getting back to communion how would you answer the questions I presented on my last post?
Did you notice how Jesus ended each bible verse …
24and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.”
25In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this,
whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
If you were taking Jesus at communion, there would be no need to remember, He is right there being offered to you in body and blood
Also from 1 Corinthians 11
1Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.
3Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ,
Not the priest, bishops, cardinals or the pope but Jesus Christ.
17In the following directives I have no praise for you, for your meetings do more harm than good.
18In the first place, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you…
19No doubt there have to be differences among you to show which of you have God’s approval.
20When you come together, it is not the Lord’s Supper you eat
21for as you eat, each of you goes ahead without waiting for anybody else.
In our chuch, the “bread” and “wine” are distributed through the church.
As we all are holding the “bread”
We have a prayer of remembrance and thankfulness to the Lord for what he has done for us
after prayer, pastor would then say…Jesus then said “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.”
then we all take the bread as one unified church
prayer and remembrance is also done for the “wine”
32When we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world.
33So then, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for each other.
If you noticed I left out a verse in prior post and there is a reason and here is why…
26For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
My friend, God’s word says until he (Jesus) comes. God’s word is true so how can you eat Jesus body if He is has not come yet
according to God.
also…
Neophyte Rose also said
Canon of Scripture. Yes, it is said that Christ will come again.
Great we both agree Jesus Christ will come
Jesus also says in Scripture - “And behold, for I am with you until the end of the age.”
Yes he does. with that verse…when Jesus said “And behold, for I am with you until the end of the age.”,
I have ! final question to you.
From the verse below,
Did Jesus mean with us…
in body (flesh) (Holy Eucharist)
or
did he mean it in spirit?
I believe He meant He is with us in spirit.
The verse…
:
From John 6
63The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.
64Yet there are some of you who do not believe
What do you believe?
May the peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you
Amen
