My only reference is simply personal observation based on reading the news over the years.
Today people are more aware of it and fewer people are ashamed to report it. 40 years ago when I was growing up it was swept under the rug with most people thinking it didn’t effect small children who were abused. For boys that were molested by men it could be a horrible ‘gay’ label placed on them with discrimination and harassment by the child’s peers while they are growing up.
And that more people find it quite profitable to make the claim.
Factors: increased awareness, agnecies are updated with more staff, ppl in soc or med fields feel pressure to report ‘borderline’ cases, individuals who do the work of investigations are sometimes victims of abuse themselves they have repressed and are not ‘acting out’ albeit unknowingly, on random familes 'getting back at thier parents.
Sadly it will be a couple decades before people actuall start talking about cases of sexual assault/rape with females as the perpetrators and males as victims. I know it happens because it happened to me.
Unfortunately, in an effort to punish the guilty we have abandoned our safeguards designed to protect the innocent, like the need for evidence beyond reasonable doubt, collaborating witnesses, reasonable statute of limitations, etc.
THis is not my understanding of how the law works. I question the veracity of your post or your understanding of your situation.
Better 10 false reports of child abuse be investigated and found false than for 1 to be true and to have not been investigated. .
Child sexual assault against males perpetrated by their mothers or female care-givers is investigated all of the time.
I was sexually abused by a female. It’s interesting that when you say you were sexually abused, if you talk about your family in general, and the interviewer doesn’t ask “by who?” it is assumed it is the male adult as that has happened to me more than once as well. I don’t really care about which gender an abuser is, I care about it stopping.
Oh, it can. I did a little searching and found that seven states have no statute of limitation on child sexual abuse. Pennsylvania allows charges up until the victim is fifty! England may well allow such charges.
Yes small children, otherwise quite helpless males or abuse of males by people in a position of power, but sexual assault or rape of males outside of those situation is pretty much never reported. Men also make up over 40% of domestic abuse victims, but no one cares.
I know a man who was raped and mugged and never reported it (and never will). He feels shame and didn’t even want to tell me, let alone the police… I know that females often feel the same way but for a man in todays world I think it’s much harder for them to report, and they don’t.
Why would he admit to others that he was robbed of his dignity as a man so that people can humiliate and degrade him further? Hell even the police degrade men who are victims of domestic violence let alone men who have been sexually assaulted or raped by women.
I had to call the police on my wife because she kept threatening to call the police on me (the implication of the threat is she would tell them I hit her or something) the actual threats were made: because I wore jeans to a party instead of slacks and refused to go home and change, because after her ranting in the car I gave her the option of either stop the yelling and we continue looking for the store or I go straight home (as I would be able to get there despite her yelling but looking for the store with her ranting was too much), I forget the 3rd one, the one I listed 2nd I called the cops on her. Fortunately she shut up and told the police the truth or I would be screwed, no doubt.
When prosecutors get into a feeding frenzy mode, the innocent can and do go to prison. It is a shame, and such prosecutorial feeding frenzies are often accompanied by media feeding frenzies.
