I’m not sure about the JB, but i know the NJB is Vatican approved.

Yes, my Friend. It is approved. I was used in the Canadian lectionaries some time ago before they switched to the NJB, then to the NRSV.

I’m not sure that the Vatican is in the approval chain for scripture translations, EXCEPT in the sense of which translations might be approved for liturgy.
The place to ask about that is the U.S. Council of Catholic Bishops, perhaps at their website or send a letter there, and it will eventually get to the right person.
Beyond that advice, I don’t know about the NJB. “Approved” does not mean that it is popular, necessarily, is my take on the matter.
There are some new translations of prayers in the Mass, and maybe there is a shift in preference for Mass texts from the NAB to the NRSV-2CE.

Not only is it approved, it is approved for use as the lectionary in the Common Identity parishes of the Pastoral Provision (Anglican Use)!
However I am pretty sure the AU parishes are all using the RSV-CE or RSV-2CE.
