Is the K of C just for older men?

I would be interested in joining but I think at 45 I am to young.

What is some of your experience?

No way! Join, they need you. And you will have fun. They’re there to do good work and be social. My husband’s a K of C, he’s about your age. 🙂
 
My DH joined in college and has been pretty active since age 18. He is 45 now.
 
I am 22 and I joined a couple months ago. although I am the youngest in our council by about 10 years.

I was about to join when I was 18, though other activities ate up my schedule and I put it off. 😊

I joined a couple months after I turned 18, and last year I was blessed to be a part of a new Council with the Texas Tech students at our parish. The youngest is of course 18 and the oldest (right now) is in his 30s.

So, no…not just for old men.

Our Council 1762 has a strong recruiting effort and we have many younger members in the 18 to 30 range. Having a broad spectrum of ages makes for a vibrant Council.🙂
 
Membership is restricted to Practical Catholic men aged 18 and older. I would urge you to contact a Knight in your parish and join. I joined the Knights at the age of 53 and wish that I had done so much earlier. It is a wonderful group of men who care about other people. We also have a spiritual enrichment program in my council and there has been good participation in it. We were founded by a priest and have a mission to support our priests and bishops. In doing so, we also participate in activities that assist our parishes and communities. I get a wonderful sense of blessing from my active participation in the Knights and would like to see all Catholic men become so blessed.
 
My fiancee is a member and he just turned 32. There are a lot of younger men in his group.
 
As previously stated, anyone 18 or older can join. It may be, however, that your parish’s council doesn’t have many men your age. I have found that such differences matter little to me in such fraternal groups. But if you have a specific want or need for friends closer to your age, that might be something to consider.
 
I am not a member of K of C although I have been asked a number of times. Each time I’ve politely said “no”. After all these years they finally quit asking. I am, and have never been, a great joiner. When all the boys in my school were Boy Scouts, I refused to join.

For some reason I just can’t do it. Yet, I’ve been a Mayor of a small town and on the city council for 6 years. I’m a former Marine. Weird how the mind works.
 
I joined when I was 18. I am 28 now, and (as it says in my sig) I am Grand Knight, plus I am coming in as Faithful Navigator for our 4th Degree assembly. I am also on the 4th Degree Color Corps (though, now I’ll have to buy a white cape 🙂 ).

So, no, it’s not just for older men. Unfortunately, the younger generations just aren’t “joiners” anymore. You’ll also see a lot of “snow on the roof” at an Elks, Kiwanis, Rotary, or Lions meeting.

Seriously though…the Knights is there for ALL Catholic men. Typically the older guys are the ones who don’t have new marriages, new jobs, or young kids to focus on so they are the guys that tend to be more active.

That’s understood and expected. I recall a GK in another council once telling me that Knights activities shouldn’t be a top priority. God, family, and work all come before Council meetings and events. What I’ve found, however, is my participation in the Knights are a natural extension of the first two. I think Father McGivney had that figured out.

Go ahead and join. Participate as you are able and offer whatever support you can. Can you only make a meeting once in a while? That’s fine!. Can’t make the Saturday events due to kids sports? No problem. There will be opportunities in the future. Join council, participate when you can, and learn as much as possible about how the Order supports the Church and our families. The more you know, the more it will become a part of your life.
